Thanks! I won't be running suppressed for a while. In the meantime, any issues with the hot gasses venting near the support hand?

No issues at all. I run a fully extended grip on my AK's and Im never burned by gas. The Hot Gas Block or Gas Tube is a whole different story, they get super hot and will mess you up if you touch them after a few mag dumps.

How does the heat affect optics sitting on top of the gas tube?

Some cheap ones will fail. Primary Arms Microdots hold up great on an Ultimak Rail.

The cheapest I recomend for a US Palm/M.I. rail is Burris Fast Fire. I prefer Trijicon or Aimpoint but my budget wont allow for anything better at the moment.

I am thinking about buying a T1 or an RMR in a few months. I don't have any experience with Trijicon but my Comp M4s hasn't let me down.
