If your question is about spring tension and keeping the gun "locked" as opposed to closed, know that springs wear from cycling, not from remaining in either position for any amount of time.
that said, Cable Locks are fairly useless.
last I checked 10 round trap/skeet books were like $42, so if $7 was an accurate quote for single games we're talking about a fairly significant discount.
