I have never had a problem and don't mind them checking weapons for safety or ammo. I have recently noticed they ask "what caliber are you shooting" (after which they right it down) so perhaps they have started trying to keep track for wear and tear on the boollitt catchers? Generally nice people. I even had one sales person insist I pay far less than the going price for the ammo I was buying! :lol2: I like them and they are close.

Hmm, never had them ask what caliber I'm using or write anything down. Sometimes a specific employee will recognize me and not even check

I have been a member since shortly after they opened. I have been checked every time I have used the facility. The procedure, that I have encountered is:
Q: What are you shooting today?
    A: 9mm, 22, 223, 12 gauge, etc....
Q: We will need to check your ammo
A: No problem (Ammo check with magnet)
Q: Do you have/need eye pro, hearing pro, targets, etc...?
A: No, I have everything I need, thanks.

This process is painless and does not hinder me from shooting. It also protects Freestate from unnecessary damage to their equipment.
I (& my wife) will continue to be members of this range for the foreseeable future.

Interesting, no one has ever asked me what caliber I'm using. They usually just go straight to checking it. Maybe If you said rimfire right off the bat they wouldn't check it. One time I only brought 22. I opened my bag and he took a peek in but didn't bother with the magnet.

The "what caliber are you shooting" question is to put the loudest people on or near lane 12. At least that has been my experience when they have multiple lanes open and have a choice where to put me.

Makes perfect sense now that you mention it. Last time I was in I was shooting 9 out of a new Springfield (they put me on 2), and they had some guy shooting a cannon down on 11 or 12 with no one between us. I didn't even walk down to see what it was because it was so loud, and I had doubled up on my ears. Thanks.

I also believe this is the reason. When people are leaving they don't understand the concept of closing the range door before they open the door that leads back to the showroom.

My experience is that they always check for open chambers. Sometimes they'll just eyeball my ammo, sometimes use a magnet. If I'm shooting my 12 ga., they'll put me at one of the far lanes if there isn't a class (armored car, security guards, etc.) in session at that end. If so, they'll put me at one of the first lanes so there's some distance between us.

You know, now that I think about it, that's probably it. Whey time I've brought a shotgun I've been put down near the end...

I was told they only allow up to 5.56, I'm a member there also and I would be interested in shooting a nagant there
