    Title Jumping:

someone in Maryland attempting to sell a car without registering the car under their name first.
Ever read the book "Three Felonies a Day"?

Pretty sure we could all arrest one another each and every day, and then we would all be in prison with one another.

If this doesn't have any SIGNIFICANT actual impact/bearing on you, let it go. As already mentioned, the risks associated with getting this wrong are huge and not worth it unless the reward is huge.

What exactly do you get out of the citizen's arrest? A warm fuzzy feeling? The saving of a loved one's life? The saving of thousands of your dollars?

Unless there is some huge upside to something like this:

Moco barely prosecutes people for violent crimes anymore, I seriously doubt they care about title jumping.

There's also little doubt in my mind at this point that OP is a troll.

I arrested this dude named CornPop back in the day for ripping the tag off a mattress - all his buddies were there with machine guns and whatnot and I said "do you want arrested too"? and they all took off running...

I bet this is something that happens a lot, especially intra-Family.
I wonder what the statute of limitations is?

Your questions are a little alarming. Citizens arrest for title jumping, can you shoot someone for breaking in your home and stealing yoir property....

Did you just get a HGP and now think you're Chuck Norris?
and a prosecutor will probably love all the work done for him should he ever end up in court.

I have a car in my driveway that probably crossed three hands before getting to me and being registered. As it is a 1971 vehicle I am sure it happened many times before as well. Oops.

And what if the person is legally armed when you try this citizens arrest for title jumping?
Legally armed guy is committing a felony. If he resisted with his firearm, my guess is he'd be going to jail. Just because this is a non-sensical law doesn't mean breaking it gives him a pass of some sort.

Same thing, I guess, if legally armed guy robbed a bank.

Title jumping is NOT a felony in Maryland. At best it's a citation, usually issued by State Police.

I can promise you that they are rarely ever prosecuted in Montgomery. I was actually ordered by the County Attorney to return an unsigned title to the mother of a convicted shooter recently.

On top of the fact that the shooter couldn't prove that he legally purchased the car, the title was unsigned upon the alleged sale, which renders that title null and void, and I cannot release property from an adult to another adult without written consent. But... I was ordered by the County Attorney to ignore the law and our policies and return the unsigned title.

Did you obey the unlawful order?
