This is direct from the MSP FAQ page from toady.

    Q. In the past, semi automatic AR10 or Heavy Barrel "H Bar" AR rifles - have been considered long rifles and were not subject to a waiting period (per FFL & MSP approved sales). Our team uses these rifles in competitions - are they now part of the ban or considered regulated? They are not on the firearms list.
A: According to existing law and the new law, the Colt AR-15 Sporter H-Bar rifle is exempt from the ban and is still for sale as a long gun.

Unless the AR-15 is marketed and sold as an HBAR you can not buy it, legally, as a Marylander. There has also been comments made by several of the men in blue that ONLY the Colt HBAR's were still legal.

I just got an AR from Santa. At least that is what the From/To sticker on the wrapping paper said. So assuming Santa is current with Maryland law this is what a HBAR looks like. It does have "H-BAR" stamped on it, but it also has a slight notch near the tip of the barrel.

Thanks everyone for your input, really disappointed in this unconstitutional FSA 2013 law, which infringes on the second amendment. Some people have mentioned the LE6920 is illegal because of the notch in the barrel. I suppose no dealers or gun shows in Maryland would even have the LE6920 because I was thinking I could change out the barrel to a HBar barrel and perhaps make it legal, but the issue would be even buying the LE6920 in MD wouldn't be possible.

Anyways another rifle I am now looking into is the Colt LE901 which is legal, but it's currently out of my budget and I will have to save up for it.

BTW, the HBAR and non-HBAR barrels differ in profile under the handguard.

Non-HBAR barrels neck down to a smaller diameter, then back up to the size at the gas block. This is done to make the rifle lighter.

The HBARs have the same or great diameter under the handguard as at the gas block.

His arguement, and he is correct, is that there is nothing in the law that specifically defines what a heavy barrel is.

That is because when the list came out, there was ONLY the Colt HBAR. So using the name was enough.

The list dates back to 1996.

It is legal to own IF you possessed it prior to October 1, 2013. Illegal to possess it after October 1, 2013 if it was not possessed prior to October 1, 2013. Don't want the OP to think he can make one out of an 80% lower and it will be legal just because he did not buy or transfer it, but made it.

Good point. I though that was implied in my answer but since we all have to parse our words so carefully nowadays no sense in taking a chance. Welcome back!

It will be just like pornography - they will know it when they see it! For me, I've never seen any . . .

    Just art, huh?

That is the entire problem. Can I have a HBAR barrel fluted? It is no longer contoured correctly, and is clearly more dangerous to children and puppies.

Correct. It doesn't specify a minimum weight of the barrel to be considered "HBAR". Example: A 16" barrel that is stamped "HBAR" in some cases weighs less a 20" barrel that is not an "HBAR". Just thought I'd throw some more shit in the toilet to churn.

does the second pic of a colt lower have an Hbar barrell?

    Read on............

I'd assume so. I pulled this pic from the Shooters Discount Colt AR6721 HBAR thread:
    http://www.mdshooters.com/showthread.php?p=2791806#post2791806

Yes it is an HBAR and stamped accordingly on the barrel.

Lou in Mt Airy may have some of the 6721 HBARS, which are pretty similar to the 6920s.

Brand new in box at $1060.00.

See my first portion of this post.

Yeah, the problem with "notched" children and "fluted" puppies has reached epidemic stages in this state. Laws are needed in this state to prevent notched children and fluted puppies.:sad20:

Remember the original reason the HBAR was exempted was that the antis wanted to show they are not against "legitimate sporting use" and the HBAR was a TARGET rifle.

Defense against tyrants, despots, and other criminals is a sporting purpose? Where do I get my hunting license and what are the seasons and bag limits?
