If you have the funds, get the DE50, it is fun and accurate to shoot. The cost per round is more than a 45 of course but I only shoot about 1/3 the rounds when I shoot the 50, same amount of fun though. If i had to choose between the DE50 and the SW460 I get more enjoyment from the 460 and its...
I was there early last Monday morning and didn't run into any of the pests. They were problematic in the spring but since then I haven't seem much of them.
I looked back at my emails, in 2011 & 2012 they sent an email to remind you to apply by the deadline if you planned to enter. The one this year definitely sounds more like a promo. Could be they are just trying to raise more entry funds and farmer donations for DNR or they have been spending...
After hearing different takes on the OP's post I can see the potential for confusion. I haven't been to Hap Baker, however if I were coming to the OP's lane I think I would have would have asked, are you done with these targets?, if so then I probably would have sighted in a few shots before...
I have a Leupold VX-3 2.5-8x32mm on my S&W 460. Like Deep Creek Rock, I like the variability in power although I use 4-6x power most often at the range for 100-200yd shooting. I got mine a couple years ago from optic planet under $500, it looks like they are $549 with free shipping now.
You will love it! I haven't bought or reloaded any .45LC or .454 after the first few boxes I purchased, the .460 rounds are just too much fun. I have let family and friends work their way up to the .460 though; its nice to have the option.
Thanks for the post, that was impressive. I wonder what was going through their minds while waiting to have those things shot right next to their heads? I can guess what the smile afterward was for!
Prospector,
Since the shoot is Sunday I should have time on Saturday to load some rounds and practice snapping in. I will definitely try to make it, thanks for the heads up.
Yes the record was shot at NRA Wittington Center. The heavy gun record was also set at Wittington in 2009, a 1.955" 5 shot group, all in the X ring by the way!
The only .50 competitions east of the Mississippi are in Georgia or Pennsylvania. I shot at the Penn 1000 yd benchrest club near...
Over the weekend there was a new record set for 50 cal., bench rest shooting light gun (max 32.5 lbs.), at Raton, NM with an incredible 5 shot group of 2.178” at 1000 yards.
I have only shot in one 50 cal. match, also the only time I have shot 1000 yards, and struggled to get an 11” group...
Marauder, let us know how the scope works out for the silhouette matches.
Forthefunofit, The only problem I had with my XVR was my base loosening up before I put loctite on the screws, no problems since. I usually only shoot .460 handloads. Looks like Lax and I both went with the Leupold.
I use the hornady reloading manual. I load either Hornady Amax or Winchester ball. The Amax are competition grade and very accurate. The winchester ball are still pretty good. I don't know anything about casting bullets.
Thanks for the excellent info. I am new to the AK market and was trying to decide between the 47 and 74 also. The info here is helping to decide. I think I am leaning towards the 47, maybe a pre ban folder. If I did find a pre ban folder and had it shipped to my FFL from out of state is...
Some great suggestions here. I haven't made it to Old Salty's but plan to soon, several folks have recommended it.
Last year I started a website for motorcycle routes around Maryland, still a work in progress. The goal was to have some routes you could just lock and load when you found...
