Anyone else enter it? More specifically, anyone else have any problem when entering it?

Wife and I both submitted our entries this weekend and neither of us has received a confirmation e-mail from the DNR. On the final checkout page it gives a number to call if you don't get an e-mail, so I'll have to try that tomorrow morning and see what it gets me.

Also, since they moved the lottery to the compASS system, it didn't show the preference points that we've both accumulated over the years. I don't really like the new system.

It's .gov. They don't really care about you or your stupid permits.

DUDE it's BLACK BEAR. ARE YOU RACIST???????????????

Might get some response Monday since for them, it's a work day.
Let us know how it turns out, you might get a response tomorrow.
I bet you one Coca Cola you don't.

Well, as a follow up, I spoke to someone from the DNR today and she told me that for the black bear lottery, there is no confirmation e-mail, despite what their website says. The drawing is now done using your DNR customer ID number instead of the sequential 4-digit they used to have.

    I fear change...

You mean the state is raffling off a black bear? Talk about dangerous. Oh, the black bear hunting permit. That's different. Good luck guys. If you do score a permit, find a bear quickly. The season always closes early.

I think they had some problems this year. I have never seen them solicit hunters for the program. Did you receive this e-mail?

    Dear Maryland Sportsman:

Have you ever considered hunting Maryland Black Bear? If not, view this video (http://youtu.be/PNnVQFNMszU) and think about adding this adventure to your “bucket list.”
If you have already applied, please share this email and video link with a friend and disregard this notice
If you are unable to hunt black bear this year, you can still apply online and purchase a “preference point” which will be added to those you already have for the drawing in 2014.
If you haven’t applied, apply today at http://blackbear.dnr.state.md.us (Application cutoff is 11:59 p.m. on August 31).
You can also register at any DNR Service Center or any one of the 250+ Sport License Agents across the State.
Registrations will also be accepted by phone between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. every day through August 31st at 1-855-855-3906.
For more information about hunting black bear in Maryland, including first time bear hunters, go to http://www.dnr.state.md.us/huntersguide/BlackBearGuide.asp
Please remember that your lottery number this year will be your DNR Id number and you will not receive a separate confirmation email. Your confirmation is your successful payment transaction.
Winning numbers will be posted at http://blackbear.dnr.state.md.us on September 3.
If you have any questions, please contact me by email or phone.
Again, if you have already applied, please disregard this notice and share this email with a friend.

I looked back at my emails, in 2011 & 2012 they sent an email to remind you to apply by the deadline if you planned to enter. The one this year definitely sounds more like a promo. Could be they are just trying to raise more entry funds and farmer donations for DNR or they have been spending too much time at the casinos.

Thanks for the follow-up. I registered last night right before the application period closed, & was afraid I'd screwed it up since I didn't get the email. This is my first year so I'm sure I won't have to worry about trying to figure out how the heck to hunt a bear!

Minimum of 25% of tags go to residents of Garrett and Allegany counties, but my plan, if I get picked, is to put a classified ad in the newspapers out there to try to locate a landowner who needs his herd thinned out. Failing that, it'll be a long, cold couple of unproductive days in Savage River SF.

Not chosen again. 5 years straight. I have land and a cabin in Allegany county, next year I am using that address.

Disagree, You gotta play to win.

The problem is the small amout of permits they give out. When 4000+ people apply and they only give out 300 permits, with 25% of those going to All. and Garr. residents, the chances of getting one is slim.
