I took delivery of a Yugo M59 from Dan's that was advertised as "used, very good original condition." I know a fair amount about Russian and Chinese SKSes but nothing about Yugos. My rifle is in very nice condition, with bluing around 95% (+/-) and really clean wood. The bore looks shiny and strong. The rifle's serial has a C prefix, so it was made in the early 1960s. I haven't taken it apart. The serial number is stamped on the receiver and bolt carrier, and EPed on the magazine, trigger guard and dust cover. The rear sight is EPed "D-185", which is odd since there are no records out there of a D series rifle having a serial number 185 (and I don't believe they would've included the letter prefix anyway). It has clearly been refurbed. I'm not loving the huge Elvis gold EP. From what I can decipher from the log sheet, the rifle was tested and preserved in April 2005 and was found to be in 90% condition with a muzzle reading of 7.65mm. I measured the muzzle with a CMP gauge and it reads about (a little under) a 2. The stock is numbered to the rifle (but a previous number also appears) and the stock also bears the mark "1.TRZ", which I understand is a refurb mark. Any info or thoughts would be appreciated. I'm not in love with this yet.

My friend got one two days ago from Dan's and his bayonet is blued, more like a grey color, but not shiny.

I'm sending mine back. I'm just not going to ever be happy with it, and there are other things I'd rather put $425 toward. He's since updated his website to remove the word "original" from the description. I just can't stand the huge gold EP on every replacement part. Oh well . . . that's how it works sometimes.

I will let you know sometime early next week how I like mine. I was between one of these and one of the grenade launcher/rubber buttplate ones from classic and SOG. Hopefully I will like it...not a fan of the gold EP either but I might be able to live with it.

    Thanks for the post!

I've fondled that Peruvian a time or two the last few times I went to Lou's.

Lovely looking rifle, too bad South American stuff just isn't my style.

I was watching one online that i could have got about 100 cheaper, but the pics were not great and the info was not great either. I figured id rather go after the one i could hold in my hand and know was in pretty good shape. while i might have paid near top price for it, In a few years i expect it will rise in price like most of the older rifles.

Got my International Harvester Garand from the CMP. Overall, I am kind of happy with it. The bore is fantastic, with a muzzle reading of 1+ and a throat reading of 3. Both are not bad for a field grade. The barrel is LMR, and by the date, it appears original. I did a quick tear down, and the receiver, bolt and windage knob is IHC. The op rod is SA and the Trigger group has a WRA mark on it. Once I have time, I will do a complete takedown.

The negatives, there was a little surface rust at the rear of the receiver. It cleaned off easy with WD40 and 0000 steel wool. I need to take the handguards off though to inspect the barrel. There was some surface rust under the stock, and I hope I dont find bad rust when I take the handguards off. The stock is pretty beat up. The rear handguard has a small crack, and there are a lot of dings and dents. There is an AA mark, so obviously Augusta Armory worked on it at some time in its life. There is also an armory mark (16) painted on the side of the butt stock, but as you can see, it looks pretty bad and there is a big run. There is also yellow/orange paint at the base of the grip.

Here are some pictures. I cant tell who made the stock, but I dont think it is IHC.

I would be pretty happy if I were you. A 1/3 for a field grade is great. The 16 is a rack number. The stock is walnut. When you take the wood off, see if there are any numbers stamped in the barrel channels.

The stock does not have numbers in the channel. I have looked at guides for the stock maker, and I can't tell the manufacturer. Overall, I am happy. The stock is beat to hell though. I am considering stripping it, steaming out the bad dents and rubbing it with pure linseed oil. Might be sacrilege, but the finish would be authentic.
