Hello. New here. I was left a gun collection and are seeking a good website to ascertain fair market values. New, old and very old pistols, revolvers, shotguns, rifles, muskets. Most not my cup of tea. It all has to go. However, I need to establish what is a fair price. Thanks in advance for any guidance.

    Where they send me.
I prefer Gunbroker, set up an account and you can look at completed auctions there to see what things really sold for.

Antiques are easy to sell at least, or could wait for the next antique arms show at Timonium to sell them there.

Brian, at South Carroll Sporting Goods may be able to help also if you want to sell it all at once or consign them.

Have to decide how much you want to spend researching/doing it or if you want to move it quick/easy. Time, shipping, fees, and some troublesome buyers will eat into your planned profits.

How many items are you looking at?

For black powder and other old stuff Saint Firearms in Essex would be my local go to for assistance if you wanted to talk to a person. He buys estates a lot.

    Compiles recent selling prices.
that site does a pretty decent job of listing more common stuff. But if the OP's collection is mostly older, there could be a YUGE swing in value based on small details that a lot of these sites won't differentiate. Best off getting someone knowledgeable to help ID and catalog what's actually there, including assessing condition and matching parts etc. It may take more than one someone too, if it's a diverse collection. And nope, I don't have any suggestions other than maybe a company like Lock Stock & Barrel (in Simi, CA), JackTheDog, or a few of our IP's (Brian mentioned already, or Genesis) that will take the time to actually research what each item is and take detailed pictures, rather than most auction houses that'll just throw up a couple of pics and a generic description.

Whatever you do, don't try to clean anything esp the antique stuff.

My advice is to consign them at a local gunshop. They are more aware of the market than most of us are. The muzzleloaders you might want to consult Saint Firearms as mentioned above.
    Good luck

You need to give us a little more info .

    Collection = Approx how many ? 6 , 12 , 100 ? Broad split of types ?

    How old do you think is Old . and Very Old ? 1980 ? 1920 ? 1800's ? 1700's ?

Any of them former Military , still in reasonably close to original configuration ?

We need to get a sense if you need specialist / expert evaluation , or if everything is within the wheelhouse of a reasonably knowledgeable generalist .

Agree. We need more information about what you have to be any help. Lots of knowledge on this site, and I’m sure for every type of firearm you have there is someone on here that knows about them, or collects them.

Are the “muskets” you mentioned original or repro’s? If they are civil war area, I might be able to put you in the right direction.
    Let us know.

Might help us if we now where you are located. Then someone might be able to guid you to a local shop to either by or consign. For me the hassle of shipping would make selling online not worth it.

    For a niche/ specialized / high $$ piece , yes . For " regular normal " guns , not so much .

    *************************

I could point to several dealers of my aquaintce who could easily give you an informal ballpark estimate for your herd ( if nothing of deep niche collectibility ) either a nominal small charge , or often enough gratis , with an eye to making an offer / offering their consignment services .

My local FFL friend regularly makes house calls to appraise collections/ estates. ( But Glen Burnie is too far for him to pop over . But if your herd is of such size to fit into one vehicle to transport , I'm sure he could help you out. .And yes , he's fluent in older and vintage .)

Whatever you decide, don't go to a pawn shop. They will give you next to nothing compared to other means of selling.
