What the difference between a lower and an 80% lower?

    Scarab

You have to buy a lower through an FFL because it is a regulated firearm. An 80% lower is basically a paperweight. You have to drill holes into in and do some work on it to turn it into a fire arm. The 80% lower can be bought by anyone though; it has no registration or numbering on it.

Normally these 80% lowers are made from steel/aluminum and they are really really hard to build. But, the new way of polymer lowers are starting to become just as strong if not stronger than their metal competition while at the same time being able to be built easier (As in all you need is a hand drill easy.)

If you are interested in building a 100% unregulated firearm, 80% lowers are the best way to go. I suggest googling it for more information and reading the MDS thread I posted for more information.
