Why? The 'mustard' is flavor!
My father ripped off the shells and cleaned out the mustard before steaming.

Oh no, we popped them off still living before they went into the steamer!Ding, ding, ding...pop off the carapace 1/2 way through steaming, rinse, and pop'em back in.
LOL...That sounds more ouchy.Oh no, we popped them off still living before they went into the steamer!
If they were kept cool they would be more docile.
Still, I did get pinched from time to time but have all my fingers!
Here's how you hold a blue crab without getting pinched...Oh no, we popped them off still living before they went into the steamer!

Lol! Never thought of picking crabs as a fashion statement.Picking crabs is only for native Marylanders who want to look cool.
Hard pass from this Pennsyltucky native.
You probably have a crab sticker with the Maryland Flag pattern on your truck.Lol! Never thought of picking crabs as a fashion statement.
My wife's Grandfather taught all the grandkids and great grandkids how to pick crabs. In that family after 5 years old, you were on your own!Ain’t that the truth lol
The misses picked crabs and made crab cakes last week and my lazy ass had to eat the leftover meat to get rid if it. At least I cooked the crabs and cleaned up the mess.

What the Hell? Why waste one of the best parts? I eat all of it that's not crunchy or the devilDing, ding, ding...pop off the carapace 1/2 way through steaming, rinse, and pop'em back in.
The seasoning is the “flavor” but I prefer too little Old Bay to too much. Why? The 'mustard' is flavor!
Nevar!!!You probably have a crab sticker with the Maryland Flag pattern on your truck.
Oh, I knew how to pick crabs at that age also (and catch and cook them too) , But I didn’t and still don’t like doing it so I made that deal with my mom and it got passed to my wife. I will crack claws with my teeth and eat them but I ain’t getting that mess on my hands lol.My wife's Grandfather taught all the grandkids and great grandkids how to pick crabs. Well yeah, but sometimes their friends would get you before separating them!
If you're relying on the mustard for flavor, you're missing out. Those gritty hepatopancreas remnants are the toxins the crab was a filterin'!Why? The 'mustard' is flavor!
It tastes gooood! If you're relying on the mustard for flavor, you're missing out. Those gritty hepatopancreas remnants are the toxins the crab was a filterin'!
I don't disagree and eat them when present (in MD), but also acknowledge what it is! The crab meat is tastier without, however. It tastes gooood!
I ate ketchup on my hot dogs for years. Maybe that's my problem...I don't disagree and eat them when present (in MD), but also acknowledge what it is! The crab meat is tastier without, however.
Think ketchup on a hot dog. Not turning one down, but it is better without
Mustard on a dog far exceeds mustard on a crab. Again, any blue crabs are better than none, regardless of processing the innards.I ate ketchup on my hot dogs for years. Maybe that's my problem...
2 Beauties. What river you on?
Haha! Not me. Just something I pulled off the interwebs. It's been a while since I crabbed, unfortunately.2 Beauties. What river you on?
