    Too far gone
i work nearby and plan to hit there friday afternoon. very low expectations though regarding pricing and availability of guns and ammo. i should pack up some brass to sell it.

Went there last time on a Friday around 1p. Plenty there. Ammo was a bit high still, but better than a lot of online stuff (when you factor shipping). There was plenty of pistols and rifles. Rifle prices seemed to be close to pre election 2012. The pistol prices were retail Krazy prices. I saw some 223/556 for around 60c/round. Cant remember the brand, maybe PMC Bronze, which I cannot stand. Basically all ammo and conceal carry weapons were high.

Aye, no 40 rd pmags. Even at the place in the far right corner with the huge "CLIPS" (lol) sign.

Seeing more Tavors nowadays. DK something-or-other had a black 16" for about ~$2000, and a guy straight up the middle from the entrance about 4 tables in had 16" and 18" black and FDE for $2099 and $2199. (Same guy as last week's HoCo show.) Another table had one in FDE for $2300 or so.

At least in VA you get to keep the 30 rd mag that comes with it, hehe.

Prices were.....MEH....got there at 130 and just left....not impressed...some back to reality ammo and mag prices...most rifles were WAY over priced for being at a show...there was one table of about 25 Finnish mosin that were decently priced. I'm thinking maybe I shoulda stayed home.....

Got there around 1:30. No lines to get in, not too crazy packed. It was rather easy to walk the isles and see everything I wanted to. I specifically went to look at CCW handguns and narrow down what I want.

A few things of note- lots of ammo. Decent prices on .308 (~70¢ / rd for new brass cased PPU, MagTech, etc.) I don't own any 5.56/.223 so I don't pay attention to prices. But there were lots of cases of Tula, Wolf, PMC. 9mm/45/40 in good supply too. Prices for 9mm around .35/rd for bulk packs. .38 special and .357 in decent supply too.

Ammo cans were dispersed around and I saw some .50cal cans in decent shape for $15 each, 2-for-$25. I wasn't really looking for them and there could have been better deals to be had on them. ??

Lots of AR's all prices and some decent deals if you're a VA res or want to deal with the transfer. Saw a few 80% lowers, didn't keep track of prices.

Lots of handguns and good prices on Glocks. Again, if you are a VA res or want to deal with the transfer there are some decent deals to be had on handguns.

Good supply of M1 Garands at various tables. Prices all over the place but could be a gem if you know what to look for (I'm still learning and chatted with a fellow from Richmond who schooled me on some quirks to I.D.ing Garands)

Mags- lots of AR mags. Cases and cases of 20 and 30rd mags all over the place. Magpul, tapco. Lots of AK mags too. Prices sorta all over the board, but not really sure as I don't have an AR so I didn't pay too close attention to them. Ruger Mini-14 mags, Ruger BX25 and the 50rd mags were priced at or below MSRP. Lots of Glock factory and Korean Glock mags. The 33-rd mags were $60ish for factory and $35ish for the Korean ones. Lots of XD, Sig, Beretta, 1911, etc too.

Different variations of 10/22s. Good selection of bolt guns and shotguns. I saw a couple wood cases of Mosins but I'm just not into them and didnt see the price, but they were there. AK's of various makes too.

It was worth my $13 entry fee. Got to fingerbang and size out some of my CCW choices.

It was decent. Got an VLTOR receiver extension for $38. That's about 20% below my cost on it. Also picked up a DeSantis Nemesis for my new J-frame for $25. Joined VCDL and got to fingerbang the MPA30T I'm looking at....

I thought it was a good day. Oh and NRA now has ACU hats, which is a nice change from the black and gold ones. I seriously have half a dozen of those...

I handled a TAVOR and I was surprised that I didn't completely hate it. But I saw all these OD frame GLOCKs so I'm adding a 34 to my list...

got a 1944 sako and 100 rounds of ammo for 250. I cant believe so many were left at the end of the day with other tables selling round receivers for 160

    Best laid plans......
    :(

Mrs Safetech had a bad night last night (chronic health issues) and wasn't up to it this morning. She said she'd go. But looking at the shape she was in after little sleep, I realized it wasn't a good idea to take her on a 1.5 hr (each way) drive, then drag her up and down the isles. And I didn't really want to drive all that way by myself.

    So I cut the grass.
    :sad20:

Any point in going tomorrow (after church)?

I assume, being a "selling show", all the good stuff/great deals will be picked over/gone by Sunday afternoon.

Not necessarily. I found plenty of good deals yesterday (especially @ Precision Firearms) evening. Even found a 10/22 Takedown for $325 cash.

If you want popular items, go early on Fri or Sat morning. The mouth breathers and everyone else mob the shows on Saturday. Depending on sales and what's left, you can make good deals Sunday as the dealers would rather sell than pack everything up. I would imagine any ammo that's in demand will be long gone or overpriced by Sunday.

It can be a crap shoot, but the one advantage to the Chantilly show is the variety and selection of guns available. They really have a bit of everything.

Dealer: You selling that M1 Carbine?
Me: Yes, you have an offer?
    Dealer: $500.
    Me: Yeah, right
Dealer: Your price is too high
Me: Well, you've got one for $1500. I don't see anyone buying your stuff. Any of it.

Some of these guys are just hilarious to talk to...what is it, 2004?

Got some CMI M14 magazines, .308 reloads, and two bayonets for decent prices. Worth the trip, but the prices on rifles are plain ridiculous. $2000 for a Garand that barely makes the CMP Service Grade criteria? :lol2:

i'd like to know this as well - did anyone see any? Thanks

T&T Reloading (back middle section) had a decent supply of powder (nothing I was looking for though) and was selling 1k of small rifle primers or 2k of small pistol primers if you bought something else to go along with them.

One of the vendors towards the back on the left side had a bunch of cases of Federal small and large pistol primers.

Just got back. Plenty of primers, bought small rifle, small pistol and LARGE pistol (thank goodness!) primers. Decent price, about $32 per 1000. $40+ at some tables, so look around
T & T had plenty, as well as a line of people.
Not as much powder choice, but more than the last few shows.
Got a few pounds of WST and H110, decent price.
Lots of ammo, didn't price it.

Got what I came for, primers, so it was worth the gas.
Traffic backup at The Bay Bridge tolls coming back sucked big time, though.

Did you talk to him at all? Is he the bloodthirsty psychopathic proponent of the proliferation of child-killing automatic assault weapons that NBC/ABC/CNN tells me he is? :ohnoes:
