I do not see a requirement to not allow a plea-bargain for firearm crimes

Any chance on getting G&S codified somehow?

No, it is not enough. There are plenty of people in Maryland and in other states how have been convicted under these types of restrictions, lost their gun rights and other rights, and even been incarcerated. The fact that the statutes under which they were convicted may be hard to square with the Second Amendment, as you read it and perhaps as I read it, is of small comfort to them. Therefore, it behooves all concerned to pay attention to the particulars of the proposed statutory language.

I mean, "isn't that enough" to motivate a person to help stop it. I guess I am disappointed that Beretta can be placated with an inch. Or that someone would see a $25 fee vs a $100 fee as a victory. I know I am preaching to the choir.

It very much remains to be seen if Beretta will be placaded by an inch.

Don't assume that these amendments have been blessed by Beretta.

I really think Beretta is simply fed up with Maryland. They see themselves as bringing tons of skilled jobs and income into the state, and getting thanked for it by being figuratively flipped the bird by Annapolis every year. They've pretty much had it. And they're family owned, still, after all these years, so no board of stockholders to spend months convincing first. The old man says go and they're going. And I understand that the old man has had it with Maryland's ********.

It appears that 281 changes the current 30 day involuntary committtent screen on buying handguns and rifles to voluntary.

If so, wouldnt that disqulify/make criminals out of people seeking or who have been through an in-patient voluntary treatment programs for drugs or alcohol addiction better known as "rehab"?

If thats true its a shame, rehab works for many, and turns around a lot of people that get sober and reenter society to live healthy, happy, productive, and sober lives.

I dont like the change from involunary to voluntary, its a huge step backwards and will discourage people from seeking treatment for mental illness of any kind.

    Am I reading this correctly?

If this 55-page mess becomes law another consequence is that a ton of out-of-state dealers will not deal with a relatively small state like ours. Not worth it. And like some pointed out, some (or many) gun companies too will not deal with us. This has the opportunity to be a disaster, like the one in NY where their new law might have to be amended otherwise handguns that fit more than 7 rounds cannot be legally sold.

"The Messiah" Obama wants our guns,
    Along with other liberal bums.
    Our Constitution, says otherwise,
He is not American, he's in disguise.

The 2nd Amendment is plain you see,
To protect us all from his tyranny.
He wishes a country full of sheep,
And I pray each night before I sleep.

I pray that America will always survive,
But I am seeing, a quick demise.
Our GOD given rights are under attack,
And once gone, we will never get back !

Millions have died to keep us free,
I will too, if need be.
Drones in the sky, over the land of the free,
Drones that will be spying on you and me.

Complete control, over us you see,
Hell or high water, it WILL NOT be!
I served this great country in Vietnam,
And I am not, a brave man.

MOLON LABE, is the battle cry,
From my dead hands, you will have to pry.
Guns have always kept America free,
There is only one way, to get them from me !

And that is somewhat sad for our cause. They are a powerful force in our favor. If they pack up and leave, they won't be there to argue next time, next year.

if I am wrong, i would not be the first time, nor close to it. But, regrettably, the proposed new restriction is NOT limited to "purchase." Here is what it actually says -- it is on page 21, as part of 5-117.1:

A PERSON MAY PURCHASE, RENT, OR RECEIVE A HANDGUN ONLY IF THE PERSON: (1)(I) POSSESSES A VALID HANDGUN QUALIFICATION LICENSE ISSUED TO THE PERSON BY THE SECRETARY IN ACCORDANCE WITH THIS SECTION . . .

Clearly, "receive" means something broader or otherwise different than "purchase (or) rent," or otherwise the term would not be there. I think you have to assume that it means, well -- receive. If I hand my son a handgun he has received it. This is separate and apart from the old law's limitations on "possession" of a handgun. Again, if that is not what they intend, it is easy enough to fix in several different ways -- but this problem has been pointed out by various analysts of the Senate-passed bill for months, and it is not fixed.

So I am guessing that applies to out of state people too.

Meaning I can no longer take my mom, dad, brother, sister shooting when they come to visit.

Three sad points that stick out to me -

    1) Maryland has run off so many good companies and employers over the past several years, it seems the GA doesn't care anymore - they just raise the taxes on everyone left in the state who actually works to make up for it (eventually there is no more money to redistribute).

    2) Do these legislators think by supporting MOM they will go "to the next level" and be rewarded? Can't they see that MOM is a self absorbed a**hat that only cares about HIS career and could care less about the legislators and citizens of MD? How about politics as usual!

    3) The people who work for a living in this state/country are being run around by the people who vote for a living.

Any chance this is politics??? Meaning its so bad that only a few in the GA would support it, wasting lots of time with more amendments etc??? Right now time is on our side, if this gets hung up long enough the senate won't have time for committee.
