You already have a revolver. I would say Glock or Beretta. I have both and in terms of accuracy, the Beretta is hands down the winner. Just my opinion.

I think you should consider a 1911 but only in 45 acp. If you really want to go 9mm, then look for a used M&P 9. I have one I bought used and I love it. I like the feel of the gun so much, I bought a new M&P in 22.

If you are looking for ecenomical handgun recreation the S&W22A or Heritage arms Rough Rider are hard to beat. My 22A has a 5" barrel that can sport a reddot and a 7"scoped barrel that can do 3moa for under $500.

ADR beat me to it. You need to add a SA revolver to your short list. For maxium old school goodness either an SAA clone , or. 3 Screw Blckhawk. You cn stick with your .38/.357 groove if you wish.

If going for a smaller revolver , if you care to maintain the classic S&W sensability , stick the a M36 or M60 , real steel. If you ever stumble upon an M12 in decent shape within your budget , grab it. But don't hold your breath looking for one on purpose.

To step beyond S&W , an SP101 is very worthy.

If.a Glock suits you , it's well proven , and a lot of them out there. A G17 actully fits me better , but 90% + of population will do as well , or prefer a G19 . Extra karma points for former LE gun.

If you want a 1911 done right , save up for the next price point upwards.(Unless you buy from Scotts , and have Chad to make it work for free).

august1410, I also made the Bersa, Taurus mistakes. Glock is a good, reliable gun. They shoot (aim) a little different than what I am used to. I love my Beretta's. I have a 96 and a 96 Vertec. They are the .40 (gay) version of the 92. Great shooters and have never given me a problem. I, also have been looking at the Rock Island 1911's. I don't know much about them, but they feel good in my hand at the gun shop and I like the price. You already know my knowledge of S&W's so I bow to your expertise. I, as of late, have been getting into shooting .22. It is as much fun as anything and way cheaper. I love my Ruger Mark I and II. I am looking for a Mark III but new Ruger's are a little tough to come by now. I just picked up my Heritage Rough Rider last week. So far I am happy with it. For $150 new it is not a bad gun. Good luck and choose wisely.

Joe being the classy guy with a special joie de vivre then you need something special to express it

1911 is a no brainer choice. Can't have too many 1911s.

For a 9mm, a Browning HP instead of the Glock. I love Glocks but they are the true example of teutonic function over form. A S&W M39-2 or early CZ75 coud be a nice alternative if you want SA/DA instead of SAO.

One Smith Snubbie to consider for CCW is a 19/66. That 2.5" barrel is a handful with 357 but a dream with 38 +P or +P+. Even a 4" wouldn't be a bad option. Read Bill Jordan and you will be convinced that everyone needs at least one M19 in their life.

J and L Frames are nice but I'm more partial to Ruger SP101 and GP100 because like all Rugers, they're tougher than woodpecker lips. Nice balance of form and function.

Good Luck with your search and Stay Classy, New Bern.

EVERYBODY needs at least 1 SA
Since you reload for 38/357 a 357 Blackhawk would be a good choice. Or, a Ruger Single Six would be good too. There's nothing like a 22 to stretch that ammo budget.

After seeing a couple of the comments, I think now is an appropriate time to share a bit of wisdom I once heard my grandmother provide to a neighbor that liked to brag about all he had while putting others down. (She was a Scots Irish hillbilly who didn't take any shit.)

"Mister, regardless of what you have now, you can rest assured that some day you'll have no more than the same 6 foot plot of land the rest of us will have."

    cleanup commenced and infractions issued.

Would y'all just hit the report post function instead of taking the bait? Makes things a lot easier in the long run.

Wait what? Is it really that offensive for Shotgun Joe to ask about handguns?

Some people decided to take cheap shots at SJ and his financial situation. I won't name who but due to these comments I've lost a lot of respect for the person involved
