Too bad he didn't stand up and speak out about it when they were trying to pass this law in the first place. I do like that he basically refuted everything Brown's letter said, however it also gives them a shopping list if they wanted to go after more.

He was present to speak & answer questions for the Judiciary committee as the MSP's expert. However, a lawyer with the Gov's office would not allow him to answer any of the committee's questions, telling him later this wasn't about crime prevention, but was for votes ("feel-good" legislation).

He was going to tell the committee this law would be BS & wouldn't do anything to curb crime or make Md safer.

The officer didn't give away the store. That info has been out there for a couple of years. He's been a stand-up guy for 2A.

When you serve at the Governor's pleasure, your hands are tied. There is a chain of command and he respected it. He also retired because of what happened with SB281, and has resolved to be an advocate for the 2A in MD.

Exactly. That's why he had to wait until now to vent.

In this state, any ally is a good one.

The "Patriot" neckbeards will try and burn anyone who has the slightest bit of reason.

They hated on Andy and they are hating on this guy.

    I hope they ban Fedoras.

    I agree on all accounts.

The one thing I will say is that most antis don't even know what a 9mm handgun or double barreled shotgun is, so they will not be able to undertstand that bot of those are still legal and not banned by FSA2013.

I agree with the author, in that FSA2013 is just more feel good legislation for a problem that goes much deeper than merely banning certain firearms and requiring a license to purchase others.

Me, I thoroughly believe that the entire 2nd Amendment debate is to keep people from debating the real issues, and the main ones are education, jobs, and the economy. I just got back from a PTA meeting and the Board has a capital expenditure budget of $87 million and no clue where the money is going to come from because the state is cutting back on education funding and the county does not have the money either. Mind you, we are the 3rd richest county in the nation. Have to wonder how education is going to be funded in Baltimore City and PG County.

The City and PG county will be funded in full because most of the votes come from there to elect the P.O.S. we have in Annapolis. They keep putting in the same people that don't do dick except screw us over. A Politian was created not to be a full time job, and that's why we need to clean house and start fresh. Will it happen?.......

We pour our money down a rathole here in PG county. The kids eat the erasers and throw their books in the recycle bin and drop out at an alarming rate.

All of this. Having met and spent a little time around Jack, I can vouch that he is 110% behind the cause.

Too many folks don't put together the pieces and understand the players. I suppose some of that is understandable, but we really do shoot ourselves in the foot this way.

I respect the guy, don't get me wrong. He really has been a stand up guy.

It's just that I can somehow imagine Ms. Dumais reading his letter in the HJC as a justification for amending the list of banned firearms to expand it.

I'm sure she and the rest of the Socialists in the Legislature have already thought of it. They would have banned anything and everything at one time if they thought they could get away with it. They are chipping away our rights one step at a time. A page right out of the Left Wing playbook.

They won't like the last page in the Right Wing playbook......

My only concern is he exposed a whole segment of scary "loophole" guns they can hope to ban next session or election cycle. My preference would have been to hammer the Baltimore city policy of the revolving repeat offender incidents, who dont have a HQL nor should have guns period. The gangs and drug dealers are a much larger and more realistic threat to public safety than some redneck (myself included) with an AR or AK.

Wonder if the pro2A folks should have insisted on the state keeping metrics on the number of firearms related incidents correlated with HQL holders..

In fact, that might be an interesting proposal next year.

Our people did this multiple times when testifying for SB281, and nobody cared.

No he didn't. Again, if they thought they could ban everything tomorrow they would. These are not unknown to the left and they're not loopholes.
Instead of bitching about this guy, perhaps we should be happy he's on our side.

I wouldn't be surprised if Mr McCauley has written several op-ed to the sun but they only published this one. you really need to follow his facebook page, he posts absolute gold... like md's gun trace center that is supposed to be keep data that would be very helpful to use but that data is either not being collected or hidden.
