Both ARs and AKs suck and are innacurate and unreliable.:sarcasm:
You will not be able to scavenge any ammo off dead soldiers, police, or find caches. That's only on TV. Remember how hard it was to find ammo after Newtown, forget a SHTF event.

See, what you need is a double barrel shotgun. When bad guys approach, just go out on your front porch, fire 2 shots into the air. Problem solved.

@Siriex, if I pull my gun on someone its probably because they're trying to kill me. I don't think firing shots in the air would be conducive to my, or family's survival

He was being sarcastic. He was making fun of what Joe Biden told us to do.

Sorry, can't find the link to smokin' Joe's advice video.

I think both the AR and AK rifles are both great rifles and would do fine as a defensive rifle. My preference is for the AK platform, because they are made for simple folks. (Like me) I also had 7.62x39 stockpiled for my SKSs, so it made sense. If .223/5.56 ammo was cheap and plentiful, and I had money, I would grab an AR AND a Saiga in .223.
