Sheriff Joe Bateman called and left a message. He says that Annapolis City Police have jurisdiction and I should stop sending him letters about our event!

    :lol2:

I guess he is not worried about our Open Holster Protest.

I heard he and Delegate James King (R) are friends and Delegate King lets the Sheriff hunt on his property.

Isn't it funny how all the important people we invite to these causes always seem to have prior events planned or are conveniently out of state?

I may be wrong, but I'm gonna state my opinion........

I believe that they either 1) Dont really care at all or 2) Dont believe its going to happen 3) Dont want to be part of the issue or deal with it 4) They think there is not enough of US to cause any real trouble or be an issue

........ but nonetheless, my experience with situations and events like this (based on military training, and experience) is that we may never know they will be there but there will definately be eyes on us, we will be under someones watchful eye, so its best to ensure that everyone is on their best behavior and avoids confrontation in every way possible,

but its also a good thing to talk to uniformed law enforcement persons, ask them how they feel about the laws, remember, be cortious and respectful of all views even if you dont agree

They may want us to have a $1,000,000 insurance policy just like Bel Air did for the Tea Party. Which BTW an insurance policy was not gotten. A good lawyer put a stop to that BS. No need for insurance, it is our constitutonal right to gather peacefully and protest, etc. Don't let them scare us off. We are by no means going to be breaking any laws.

Event: 1st Open Holster Day in Annapolis, to protest Maryland’s lack of “Shall Issue” for law abiding citizens.

    When: August 1st, 2009 (Time 12 Noon until 6:00pm)

Purpose: To have a large, completely peaceful and unarmed gathering of supporters of “Shall Issue” laws in Maryland. We will be wearing empty holsters in protest of the current “Discretionary Issue” system that sees Handgun Carry Permits issued only to those politically connected or dealing in extraordinarily large amounts of physical cash or the occasional person who can meet the impossibly high burden of proof needed to receive one for self defense.

How to Participate: This is a completely grass-roots event. There will be no formal meeting place. (SEE BELOW FOR UPDATE) The intent is to have a nice day with the family and friends in Annapolis, shopping, eating and sight seeing while wearing, in plain sight, an empty holster. You will know others participating in the protest by their open holsters. Stop, introduce yourself and make a new friend. We will provide a flyer that you can hand out to anyone curious as to why you carry an empty holster.

Basic Safety Rules: All holsters must remain empty at all times. Do not put toy guns, training guns or the like in your holster. We want to emphasize the emptiness of the holsters and our lack of protection. We do not want any misunderstanding with local officials (See below). The holster will simply be a fashion accessory, symbolizing our vulnerability to criminals.

Getting the Word Out: Letters will be sent to local Law Enforcement Agencies notifying them of the event and to presence of our empty holsters. Additional notification will be sent to the Governor, the Attorney General and select Legislators.

Long Term: We intend to have additional Open Holster days, in Annapolis and other areas in Maryland. The plan is to build on each Open Holster day, gathering more protesters to join us next Spring, during the Legislative session, to take the protest to the next “Shall Issue" bill hearing. Join us, make friends and help the movement to get Shall Issue Conceal Carry in Maryland.

I plan to be at the end of Main Street @ the Docks from 12 till 1 or so. Please stop by and introduce yourself. I will take pictures of the empty holsters so we can send them to our legislators during the next session!

I handed out a few copies of this post around. I suggest people hand copies out at work or leave them in a conspicuous location or in gun shops.
Remember, this is just a few weeks off.

I filled out the paperwork today for Annapolis City Public Services. It does not appear to be a big deal and the filing fee of $25 is waved for Amendment type rally’s. I just needed to tell them we would not need crowd control officers (fee associated), to block streets off (fee associated), portable johns (must be ADA compliant, fee associated), trash pickup afterwards (fee associated), electrical power (fee and permit associated), we would not be selling anything, and other possibilities. The fact that we will be on public property (around the docks) was the trip wire for the paper work. The lady who I talked to was very helpful and was just making sure that all public services (Police, Fire, etc.) are notified of our presence.

Just a reminder that if anyone comes across one of our brochures on the ground, make sure it is picked up. We want to leave Annapolis a better place then when we arrived. We want ZERO reasons for anyone to bad mouth our group and cause. We are good citizens and deserve the right to protect ourselves.

So, short of another call from the city, we have a clear “GO” from all required officials, all local LEO’s have been notified and I have a letter from the AG wishing us “Good Luck”. If this does not quell your fears about joining us, I am sorry… maybe you’ll join us for Day #2.

I am ready, how about you?

Heard from an Annapolis police officer, the officers were briefly notified there will be an open holster protest on Aug 1st sometime last week.

so I cant decide which to wear....... CZ.82 holster (empty of course) or padded holster for my Taurus or both???????

I was thinkin bout the one from the Tok but its kinda goofy lookin, and the ones for the CZ.52's are not exactly pretty or attractive......... if anyone is wanting to borrow a holster I will have all 5 in my car, I have 2 CZ.82, 1 Tok, I padded vinyl(Taurus), 2 CZ.52.......

I had a nice talk with the Annapolis Police today. They have spread the word among their people and feel that we should have a smooth protest on August 1st!

I'm looking forward to Open Holster Day!

    We have our Permit!

Trying to keep everyone in the loop on developments...

The City of Annapolis sent me a copy of our approved permit for August 1st (with a rain date of August 2nd).

The only condition was "Stay on sidewalks, use marked crossings."

So be good citizens and we will be fine. :D
