The Chief's interpretation says to treat anyone as with the laws in their state of residence. Look at the scenarios section of the directive. I do not believe this ruling or the interpretation says just anyone can carry if they are not abiding by the laws of their home state.

The laws of their state for legal possession, not carry.

How would a D.C. cop know the laws of all 50 states? Seems like a slippery slope.

Lots of Battered Gun Owner up in this thread... No wonder MD is still a may-issue state.
I think I may swing down to DC tonight with my Beretta PX4C just because I can. Use your rights or lose them people.

I HAVE AN APPT. IN DC THIS WEEK :)

I will carry while in DC, use your rights or lose them. Surely if weeks go by and no one does anything stupid the court will realize this is no big deal and deny the stay. I applaud hvymax, I won't be open carrying but I applaud his efforts nonetheless.

My biggest concern is that there is so much Federal property in DC. I don't know which buildings are owned by the Federal government. If the Federal government has just one office in a building, is it a government building? I know that I cannot carry in a post office. For me, there are too many unknowns for me to try it.

No. The building I work in is mostly federal offices, but the upper floors are private sector. This building IS NOT a federal office building. Now, the building next door IS and you MUST show federal ID to get in.

As a Maryland resident with a Utah non-resident permit, I am looking into visiting DC before a stay may be put into place. Maybe we'll even see a poll asking whether any forum members CC'd in DC without incident.

Go visit. You don't need a permit unless you want to go to VA and CC. Just be aware of where you can't carry and the mag size limits.
