In the next couple of months I'll be moving to MD from TX. I know new legislation has recently passed regarding AR platform guns. If I move into the state can I bring my two AR15s (both registered SBRs) and one has a can, are NFA items ok to possess in MD? Any restrictions on bringing handguns?

    Thanks for the help!

My condolensces on your move. Welcome to the communist state of Marylandistan. You are a minority and will be treated as such. You will most likely not be able to obtain a CCW permit as few are actually issued. Your rifles and freedom are not welcome here.

My condolences to the OP. Having said that, Maryland is actually pretty NFA-friendly. You'll have to register the ARs and the pistols, but that's it.

A bit of advice...if you can maintain legal residence in TX, do so. It will make buying from out-of-state dealers much easier.

HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND?????? I can't get out for at least 10-15 more years. Like many have said and will say, look to Va., Pa. or W.Va. before becoming a resident of the peoples republic of Md.

Don't get me wrong. I LOVE this state and all it has to offer by way of it;s beauty and natural resources. It's just the political climate that has run and is running so many away.

What's the process for registering with the state? Since both lowers are SBRs, the feds already have them on file so having them on file with the state too isn't a big deal. And so pistols also need to be registered? Any restrictions on pistols I can bring?

I appreciate all the quick replies!

So AR-15 are OK to bring into the state when I move as long as they are registered with the state? Are there any bullet button requirements or the like (former Californian here)? Is there a limit to the number of guns I can bring in and register (thinking I should pick up a few extra lowers if there's no limit).

This thread would be funny if it weren't so true.

I agree with others. Stay out of this communist tax trap if at all possible. All Maryland wants to do is bleed everyone to death with taxes and strip more and more freedom each year.

Sign on 95 entering Maryland should say:

Welcome to Maryland. We hate freedom and love to tax you to death. Bring your wallet and leave your guns behind!

I believe your lowers will be okay, if purchased prior to October 2013. I think they must be registered but not 100% sure. Someone smarter will be along shortly to provide the details.

No limits on quantitiy, no bullet button, no magazine size limits. Only requirement I thought was anything banned in MD must have been purchased prior to October 2013.

Even if they are NFA, you need to have purchased the AR-15s BEFORE Oct 1, 2013. If you purchased them after, you will have to leave them in TX.

Repeating what others have said, do not move to MD if you have any other decent options (DE, WV, VA, PA). I can afford to live where I want and I'm on my way out as fast as possible. If you love your freedom in TX, you will hate it here beyond words, and you will deeply regret moving here soon enough.

Everyone is doing the right thing trying to steer you away from this god awful state. To answer your question directly, this is not legal advice. Do your own research, as you will find many here do not like to advise others regarding the legalities of the very wishy washy hard to understand gun laws. My personal understanding and interpretation is that as of October the first 2013 - if the AR-15's are not HBARs (heavy barrel profile) and you did not buy them in Maryland prior to the law, you can't bring them here legally.
