    Updates posted, thanks!

Thanks for the link, Dogbone! It appears I've been one of the lucky ones that have been redistricted. Now in 31B instead of 32. Now I'm in Dwyer & Kipke's district. Might have change back my registration to R. Bummer.

FYI - I think registration changes also affect the ability to gerrymander. Hopefully that change helped to throw off the redistricting so that they will not get the election results they want :)

From Wayne Norman (moving from House to Senate district 35) I like him !

    1. What is your general stance regarding the 2nd Amendment ? I AM A FIRM SUPPORTER OF OUR SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHTS. I FOUGHT HARD IN THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES IN OPPOSING SB281. I AM A HUNTER AND A SHOOTER AND I OWN LONG GUNS AND HAND GUNS. I HAVE BEEN IN OFFICE FOR SEVEN YEARS AND I HAVE A 100% RATING FOR EACH OF THOSE YEARS FROM THE NRA. I AM VERY PROUD OF THAT FACT.

    2. What do you think about the current gun laws in Maryland as they stand today ? THEY ARE UNCONSTITUTIONAL AND OVER REGULATE GUN OWNERSHIP.

    3. What is your opinion and stance on the passage of SB281 last year ? I I FOUGHT HARD IN THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES IN OPPOSING SB281 AND WORKED HARD EXPLAINING TO VOTERS WHY IT WAS BAD LEGISLATION.

    4. What is your attitude towards an ordinary citizens right to carry a concealed firearm outside of the home for lawful self defense purposes ? I BELIEVE IN THE RIGHT TO CARRY. CRIME RATES DROP CONSIDERABLY IN CONCEALLED CARRY STATES.

    5. Do you believe that banning guns will lower violence in our communities ? IT WILL NOT. MORE PEOPLE WERE KILLED WITH HAMMERS IN 2010 THAN BY ASSAULT WEAPONS PER FBI STATS. YET WE DON'T PLAN TO BAN HAMMERS.

    6. What is your opinion of the current Maryland State Police policy that a "good and substantial" reason must be proven to obtain a Maryland Concealed Firearm Permit (taking note that they do not deem self defense as a good and substantial reason) ? THE CONSTITUTION DOES NOT SAY THAT YOU NEED A GOOD AND SUBSTANTIAL REASON TO BEAR ARMS. THESE MARYLAND REGULATIONS ARE UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

Here is one for you in District 30A. I was eating a local Annapolis favorite (Chris' Charcoal Pit) with a friend of mine today when we were interrupted in a friendly way by a nice looking woman at the table across the isle. Very timely because we were talking about AR builds, but I don't think she heard us.

Long story short-er. She introduces herself as Laurie Sears Deppa and says she is running for State Delegate, District 30A.
    Her platform includes
-fighting for small business as she lost her business due to some lovely state regulation (no details given nor asked for)
-Navy Veteran of the Gulf War
    -Leader
    -Mother

So, I ask her where she stands on 2A. She says, "I'm sorry, what is that?" I say our second amendment... for the right to keep and bear arms. She says, "I am for that to a certain extent being a veteran. I asked what she meant and she said well, 5 year olds don't need to be running around with guns". I said uh-huh, so do you feel that law abiding citizens should be allowed to own and carry firearms? She said with exceptions and then she turned and continued talking to my friend about something unrelated for a moment before we went back to our lunches. I didn't want to press her further, but I let her know that fortunately she is not in my district.

    Her website is www.lauriesearsdeppa.com FWIW.

Both Craig and Haddaway are staunchly pro-2A, and are among our best friends out there. I've thoroughly enjoyed my conversations with them, and believe they would do very well.

That said (in the interest of full disclosure), I should mention that the other R candidates I've spoken with (George, Lollar, and Vaeth) are also pro-2A and very much in favor of carry rights (Vaeth maybe more from a LIbertarian slant).

I have yet to so much as hear that Hogan has been at public events, much less had a chance to talk to him.

Lollar is awesome. Ran into him on Saturday again. He's smart, constitutional all the way! He ran against Goliath - Steny Hoyer - with grace and dignity. Stood up for his principles and has a solid platform.

From John Mackie...newcomer running for delegate seat in 35A. I'm not totally impressed with the fact he wasn't very familiar with SB281. He doesn't have me convinced that he has my interests at heart, seems more like an average hunter type when it comes to gun rights and 2A. I'll continue to press the other candidates to see who really has the 2A at heart. FWIW:

Question 1: The 2nd ammendment Is as vital to our freedom as is the 1st ammendment. Liberals continue to make law a that infringe on those freedoms. Barack Obama and Martin O'Malley are the worst offenders of these two ammendment that I have seen in my lifetime.

Question 2: I am not a member of the NRA but my sons are or have been. My gun collection left the house when my sons married and they took them with them. They own guns and are avid hunters. My 14 year old grandson shot two 9 point deer last season, and my eight year old granddaughter shot two 8 pointers - one with a .222 and one with a crossbow. My oldest son, Scott, founded and owned Crimson Talon, an archery supply company.

Question 3: Senate Bill 281, as I recall, dealt with assault weapons capacity of clips. I am not sure why a hunter would want a clip holding 20 or 30 rounds; however, if you are a competitive shooter, I can understand. I also understand how dumb some gun laws are; i.e. changing the appearance of a rifle by removing a grip or a handle thus making that gun legal.

Question 4: If I were working in Baltimore City every day, I definitely would consider a carry pernit. So far I feel safe in Cecil County and probably would not carry myself. But if others felt the need, or businessmen carrying large sums of cash felt the need, I would not object.

Question 5: There is no evidence that banning guns from law abiding citizens would lower crime. I object to any government regulations that would selectively target gun owners by listing their addresses on a map.

Question 6: State Police officials that use "the theory of good and substantial reason" for denying law abiding citizens access to guns is an arbitrary and capricious way of controlling gun ownership. I have a great deal of respect for the State Police and know several troopers that are proponents of gun ownership. Of all the 72 new laws and fees, I see the Govenor's PlanMaryland as the most insidious and a real threat to private property rights. You and your friends should print this socialist document from your computer and read it.

Thank you for the opportunity to respond.

    With best regards,
John Mackie, Delegate Candidate for District 35A

Updated to include Senate floor votes on SB281, plus a few 2-hour time limit votes

Thanks. I don't see these as a really strong group of Pro-2A answers. I am interested to see what the other 35A candidates have to say.

I'm not 100% sure on his 2A stance however. I was at a forum that asked question of the candidates. It was Johnson, Lollar, Vaeth, and Craig. Each was asked if they favored MD becoming a shall issue state. 3 of the 4 clearly stated they supported the right to carry and would work to make MD a shall issue state.

Lollar was the lone exception. He completely ignored the question. He stated by he supported the 2A and gave an example why which illustrated a home invasion. Not one did he say that he was in favor of carry outside the home.

EDIT: I checked his website and he does state on the site that he is in favor of carry permits without infringement.

For District 21 don't forget the other two incumbents, Ben Barnes and Barbara Frush.

There is also a Republican running, Katherine Butcher (R) from Gambrills.

    Thanks, D21 now updated.

I also updated the "Done" and "TO-DO" lists at the top. This overall list does not yet include all candidates, which is a point that my notes did previously make clear. Sorry for any confusion this may have caused. So far I have only added (to House side) sponsors of HB0294 (FSA 2013) and Judicial committee members, plus any candidates that people post to the thread. I probably have at least 10 hours of work ahead to get a list on the House side to include all Incumbents who are running for reelection. The combined list of Incumbents and candidates is so large...it is probably impractical to add them all to the thread posts; TBD on that one

My wife knows Kathy Butcher through the Severna Park Republican Women. She's good!

Does she have a website or Facebook page? I haven't been able to find anything for her to send to others in the District.

I don't see D36 on your Senatorial list:

    • Steve Hershey (R) (Incumbent - appointed to position to fill vacancy left by E J Pipkin's retirement)
    • Richard Sossi (R)
    • Benjamin Tilghman (D)
I have no additional information on any of these candidates.

Also, minor nit point - Post 3: House of Delegates, not Representatives.

    Thanks, and good catch. Updated.

FYI - for the overall list, I did not start with a complete one. I added committee members (SJC or HJPC) and bill sponsors first, then have been filling in SB281 votes and other info as I go. Maybe it would be better if I now add every district number with a placeholder TODO in it...
