Does Ace have pure tung oil? Any particular brand I would look for would be "pure" tung oil?

I purchased Formby's original low gloss from either Ace or True Value. I can't recall which. Here is the bottle. http://hardware.ucnelson.com/Product_i100488

Then, take that and a bottle of original low gloss Armor All and follow these directions. I know others have done a lot more of these than I have, but that is what makes it so amazing. I achieved amazing results on my first try. I have a new hobby now.

stu929: You may be correct. I may've gotten the tung oil (Hope's brand) at a local hardware store (Strosniders). Sorry about that.

Does anyone know the timeline for shipping after your card is charged? Mailed order 2/1/14 for HRA Service grade. Card charged 3/6/14. I have received no info from them about my order.

I placed my order at the start of January. My card was charged on 2/20 and it arrived on 3/3.

They do not charge until right before shipping. If you were charged on the 6th, you should be getting an email that says "shipped" with a tracking number very shortly....

It hurts to say this (due to the angle of my neck)....I hope mine looks that good (tracking says it'll be here by Monday morning). Are you gonna test it out this weekend?

I Certainly intended for the picture to come out straight, I don't know why it posted sideways. Posted from my phone, at work now. Stock has some dings and dents. Nothing major at all. I'm very happy with it. I am still waiting on ammo order from CMP. I'll try to get a couple of boxes of commercial m1 ammo in the mean time. Hopefully next weekend get it out for some shooting.

Stopped by the CMP Anniston store yesterday. They had mostly Harrington & Richardson rifles in the racks. About 15 field grades at $525 + 10% tax. The FG's were in rough shape. Mostly, 3,5 but a couple 2,4's. Nicked muzzles and some rust left me leaving with no FG.

They also had H&R SGS @ $950 + tax. Those were sweet 1,2 98% blue and replacement stocks. I was tempted, but decided that I'd rather order a SG @$625 + ship.

I was in AL visiting family and it was worth the 2 hour drive. Got to talk to a few Garand enthusiasts. Learned a bit. If I had driven to AL, instead of flying, I would probably have picked up a SGS and ammo (Greek surplus).

The guy working there said they have a couple years worth of rifle parts and some carbines too. They just need to catch up on orders, before they build the carbines.
They also had drill rifles, expensive match and sniper guns c&d's, but the guy told me I would double the price buying parts to complete them. Lots of empty rack space and no regular SG's at the store.

Sorry to hear you weren't able to find something while you were there. One of these days I'll have to make the trip to their northern store.
Did you take any videos/photos of the CMP? You might've seen my HRA SGS & Greek ammo box (ETA Monday).

The SGS's looked almost new, so I'm sure you will be happy. No photos. I was just enjoying being there. I decided to wait to order a SG, since I was going to have them ship anyway. I just didn't want to lug a rifle through BWI.

You should be happy. That's a USGI stock. Assuming the lockup is halfway decent, you made out like a bandit. I believe most Service Grades come with replacement birch stocks. I would much prefer GI wood.

The HRA field grades at CMP were mostly mix and match stocks. Even the national match rifles looked pieced together.
