I don’t see how a medical discharge would preclude you from the same exemption from training as any other service member with a DD214. Especially if you are otherwise able to own/purchase firearms.

"Required to have the HQL, but exempt from the training component

Is an honorably discharged member of the armed forces of the United States or National Guard."

I'm not saying this is right; however, this is on the MSP website.

I’m not disagreeing; someone said they are not exempt due to a “medical” discharge. A medical discharge is not a dishonorable discharge.

But MD law doesn't say dishonorable is a disqualifier for training exemption, it says honorable is the exemption. Any discharge other than honorable does not qualify.

MSP only 'honors' an HONORABLE Discharge.

I've seen many similar cases, sadly. It would take a lawsuit to change "policy."

I just posted a renewal class on my website. March 16, in Annapolis.
