Littlefoot44 ( and by extention , me ) are in need of an Independent Shop . that is highly experienced and familiar with early 21th Century VW . We know who to go to for Honda and most Japanese , but need equivalent for VW .

In addition to her usual electrical minor foibles , an intermittent electrical thing causes her A/T to not engage either forewards or backwards . Transmission expert says it's NOT actual transmission related , but electronic issue , and he don't do electronics .

Previous during the period I was allowed to have commuter car - car , had a electrical problem . Took it to the Honda Guru , and the bilingual counter guy asked Honorable Grandfather who didn't speak english . Without even looking " It's (this wire) in the dash that because of heat from the sun the insulation dries out and gives intermittent shorts and stops the car
And while your in there , replace ( that relay) that will be getting ready to go bad . , And he was exactly right .

We need a VW specialist that can say " oh yeah , It's this , I've seen it 10 times before ." Auto Electric Generalists randomly running down circuits for intermittent shorts is a very deep rabbit hole .

So who's the independent VW specialist with good reputation , with at least 20yrs experience ? Charles/ South PG would be bonus , but at this point anywhere in range of auto club towing .

    His name is actually "Severn".

He would like to know the year, make, and model if you want to talk to him about it before having it towed to Crownsville, MD.

Not in your area, but these guys know their stuff when it comes to VW/Audi. 4induktion.com Induktion Motorsports. There is also ngpracing.com they have 2 locations but again neither are too close to you. Sorry but both are the best VW shops I know of. Hopefully someone can recommend something closer to you.

Severn Johnson is probably one of the best mechanics in the state.

Not if her Uncle gave it to her , after her previous ride was totalled ( by the other driver coming into her lane to hit her head on ) .

I know that NGP does. The majority of their work is normal service.

Induktion is the same. They do boring work also. As a another option (you can tell I have a VW) Go to good old YT and check for videos. I am sure many others have had this problem. Deutsche Auto Parts (DAP) and ECS Tuning put out some really good videos. Both are parts places that I have ordered many parts from.

There are just so many things it could be without running a diagnosis on the VAGcom. When I googled the problem, the options for what is causing it is wide ranging.

Dick's Autohaus in Queenstown used to work on my Jetta and Fox. They were legit when I used to take my VWs there. Might be a hike though.

I have VCDS from Ross-Tech (VAGcom equivalent) and would be happy to run the diagnostics for you if you want. I don’t know if it would help though.

Queenstown meaning PG Co in the vicinity of Hyattsville ? Or is there another Queenstown ?

I actually found a local to me VW specialist , but one man shop backed up until at least Nov 15 .

Going now to Trans guy to write down the codes which he found .

But like Overboost said above , the possibilities are near endless . That's why I'm looking for " gunfighters don't charge by the Bullet " old head who will recognize a known but infrequent problem , instead of going down the rabbit hole of 10 or 15 hrs diagnostics tracing down random wires .

It's in Queen Anne's county by Chesapeake College. Probably too far.

    Cool ! And you're close by .

I will shortly get the codes found by trans guy , and see if your VCDS would further help .

( It's at the point of not trusting to drive , so an up to 100 mi tow is in its near future .)

Annnd .......... Seems the comunication path broke down . The direct word from trans guy is that in attempting tp get codes . the computer " messes up " , and will not even give a reading . So makes a problem of a different horse ! About to flip a coin between the auto electric specialist and the dreaded Dealership .
