I think when states like NV started to recognize VA, the perrmit became more popular. No more trips to Vegas just to renew my permit.

I have several friends who live there and visit frequently. I guess I could turn it into a junket but I'm not a gambler or party guy.

Now that VA and AZ permits are recognized, (I have both) it will be less expense. No airfare, no training fee and no renewal fee.

    just less hassle for me.

I have no idea why mine took so long as my application was straight forward. Anyway, it was 102 days from payment and 115 days with the mail.

VA NR have been running over 90 days lately.

Renewals too. VSP says submit rnewals at least 60 days prior to expiration. I sent mine in 90 days prior and it took all 90 days.

    Permit Renewal
The renewal process is identical to the processes and costs associated with the original permit with the exception of proof of competence with a handgun. New photos and fingerprint impressions will be required. It is suggested that all renewal application packages be submitted at least 60 days prior to expiration of the existing permit.

Be advised that VA does NOT send out renewal notices. It is up to you to submit in time. This is for NON Resident permits. I found out the hard way and my permit expired. It was not a big deal, just had to submit the paper work.
Sorry of this has been mentioned before, I did not read the entire thread.
