    My apologies, and taxpayers alike..

No apology needed. He probably only listens to alums and big contributors anyway. Taxpayers have to pay up no matter what he does.

I have doubts that he listens to anyone other than those that appeal to his senses.

I won't support the enemy, anyone or anything that supported O'Malley's law. When the next request for money comes, it goes in the bottom of the birdcage, where it belongs.

Yeah, I think I'm going to enjoy the next call I get from them.... I doubt if the phone callers actually send the info back up the chain, but I'll make sure and let them know why I won't be donating this year.

It's esp important for alumni to reach out. I've noticed there is a very strong view that college educated people hate guns. We need to show that isn't true.

UMMM MD wouldn't revoke your diploma and recall you for remedial indoctrination?

Some UMCP undergraduate student views are represented in Should we be allowed to carry concealed guns on campus?

    Folks,

I just retired from UMCP. UMD is a great place and the people are generally great. Even though I don't agree with Dr Loh on firearms, the man is crazy smart... Smart enough to recognize the statistics involved and the politics...

Anyway, during my time there I let a lot of people know the facts. There we a number of times when someone said "We need to do something [about guns]!" ...and I responded "Why? Do you know how many people in the US we killed with an assault rifle last year?" The answer, in EVERY case was, no. When I told them that it was way under 100, they were all suprised. Then I would tell them the laws, and ask what they think we should add. [The politically unpopular mental health issue...]

In almost every instance, they would walk away from the conversation understanding that politics, not actually public safety, was the reason for gun control.

I never ran into someone that wouldn't have a reasonable conversation, or consider what I had to say.

College students live in the world of the media. Universities are setup for the young to be idealistic. However, with many, if not most, once you plant the seed, they figuring it out for themselves. However, your delivery needs to be articulate and reasonable.

It's a shame the UMD president set UMD up for potentially losing funds from contributions, but in order for that to be effective you have to tell them why. So make sure you do, and make sure you are polite about it. Try to engage the person on the phone in a conversation based on the facts, and see if you can get them to understand your point.

Remember, the person on the phone might be a student worker that you can sway.

You just made the case that he's not using the statistics even though he knows them, but rather is succombing to politics, and that UMMMD is just another cog in the Left's big indoctrination and propaganda machine, which I suspect we all knew.

I occasionally see Dr. Peter Moricci, UMMD Economics Professor on Fox Business, and he makes it clear that his colleagues are pretty much way out there. I bet his classes are small.

The most important thing that I want people to understand is that the kids minds are still somewhat open.

And we should not forget to use that to sway them...

    The presidents a different story.

Typo in your second paragraph? I don't understand.

It used to be that universities were a place for research and discovery, not indoctrination. That was pre-'70's, the era of teach-ins, sit-ins, free sex, liberal drug use, anti-war protests, and Watergate. Now those same kids who traded their educations for protests, didn't learn the basics of world and US history or economics, are the professors and parents, re-living their youths from a place of power, a youth which many never outgrew, and imposing a romanticized version of their experience as well as their severely misplaced doctrine on a new generation.

This sh*t is progressing all according to the Marxist plan, at an ever-increasing and alarming rate. We didn't win the Cold War. It went underground, asymmetrical. The Marxists don't need suicide bombers and 9/11-style attacks, when college professors, journalists, actors, and aspiring politicians are an effective means to impose structural change without the shock and horror.

That is an excellent service. Also see Security Advice for Every Resident.

I did this for 1.5 years. All sorts of people requested, students, faculty, we even had one guy who clearly was on the football team and the only way he'd get robbed is if there was an elephant gun involved. Regardless, it makes people feel better, and that's what mattered to me.

It's a nice service and good on ya.

Just a shame it's needed, though.

The first thing you need to do to get control of people is take their defenses away, make them vulnerable and reliant on you, and be the source of their safety and well-being.

If you want students to accept and believe that there can be a controlled, utopian society, you have to start indoctrinating them on campus, if not before.

    The indoctrination starts in kindergarten.

If they aren't busy doing alcohol enforcement and don't have anyone to escort you...Yes it happens and numerous time a year, that people have called and been declined an escort because they don't have anyone.

Depending on the time there may not be someone available. Primarily the responsibility goes the the Police Auxiliary unit, which is student staffed and only during the certain hours, which is what I did.

When we weren't available, the department usually had no problem sending an officer for the escort. Sadly, my understanding is the department has changed significantly, but that's another can of worms I don't care to get near.
