The icon of Maryland Gun Shows has retired! Went there with a list of items to purchase and his normal spot was empty.

Talked to a vendor who informed me that TopHats last show was in Frederick, he had a fire sale to deplete his inventory.

Wish him all the best, what a icon!

Skip was getting old and hauling all that crap around from show to show was getting to him.
He had a hip replacement not too long ago.

He always had stuff I needed and I always bought something from him at the show.
I wish him well in his retirement.

I bought something from him at every show I went to. It was part of going to the show, he always had good stuff lying around. Last thing i got was a Leather Mil type sling for my Garand, $15.00 cheaper than the next booth!

I'll miss seeing him at the shows. I always tried to get something from him and always had a good buying experience.

All the best to him in whatever he is doing now.

TopHat was a class act, always made me laugh, and always had something I didn't know I needed....I wish him the best in his retirement.

WOW he was one of the longest running dealers from way back when...

I'm really sorry to see him go...

I bought a lot of stuff from him over the years...

I'll really miss him & the supplies he sold...

    Hat's off to Top Hat..!

Thanks for your many years of service to the shooting community...

Same here, we just discussed. I have some pics of his interesting "pay top hat" and "I'm watching you" (don't steal) signs. Maybe one day when I remember I'll revisit this thread and post them here.

Best wishes for you Top Hat.

Best wishes for Top Hat! Always visited his booth, my favorite part was the misc bins, you never knew what you'd see in them. He gave my wife a fifty cent piece from my change one time because he said I'd probably lose it.

My 2 youngest sons really enjoyed going to the shows with "The guy in the big black hat" as they would say.We always bought something from him. Enjoy your retirement I'm sure it's well deserved.
