I have two in 30-30, one a newer marlin which isn't as smooth as the used Winchester 94 in 30-30 I picked up. That's one of my favorite guns to shoot. I'd love to pick up one in 357, 44, or 45 long colt.

I agree with the suggestion regarding the pistol caliber rifle. Although I own, lever actions in 45-70 and 30-30, the ones that get used the most are my Marlin 1894 in .45 Colt, my son's Rossi in .38/.357 and my Marlin 39A in .22 LR. By reloading, you can shoot the centerfires for about ten to twelve cents per shot using purchased lead bullets. If you cast your own, it can be even cheaper.

the marlin 39 is the best lever gun ever!!!!!

I shot mine more then all the other lever guns combined. The 39 and my ruger single six make a hell of a fun combo!!

cheep and lots of fun I even shoot a 39 for cowboy silhouette shoots these guns seem to rule the small bore class!!

Not sure if people listed some of the difference in the different brands or types.
I only skimmed some of the responses (long thread).

Some of the difference you might see:

    1) Loading gate/tube loading. Henry rifles load from the tube (most of them, at least). Marlins and Winchesters (and many others) load from a gate at the receiver. I think some rifles will load from both.

    2) ejection port: Some levers will eject from the side (Marlin '94, for example). Many others will eject out the top. Harder to change sites or mount a scope on the top-ejectors, as the top of the receiver is an open gap (the bolt fills that gap). However, there are many products that make it possible, so it isn't that big of a deal.

I would look at the a marlin 1894 (older model) or a Winchester/Browning 92 for a pistol caliber lever. I would not back away from the Miroku rifles. They are much better finished inside and out than the Italian replicas and use better steels.

Navy arms made a pretty good replica of the 92, even in stainless, in the octagonal barrel in a 20" model. It balanced and shot very well.

Another question, I seemed to have misplaced a part for my uberti 1860 army. (part that keeps barrel stuck to frame?) push pin thing. God I'm pathetic. Any idea where to get a replacement?

I usally find things like that 2 weeks after I buy the lost part. More times then not under something with a dust bunny humping it!
