That's not that shocking, considering it's been what, almost 20 years since someone was shot in there.

However, according to Wicomico County Sheriff Mike Lewis, without the "no weapons allowed" signs, people with permits for their firearms would be allowed to carry them.

Lewis tells WBOC, " if it is a business used by the public in general, concealed carry weapon permit holders may retain their concealed weapons on or about their person."

So I guess the sign only prohibits open carry?

As someone that does carry, I'm always a little shocked by how many places in MD already have these signs.

Is anyone aware of any MD statute that criminalizes ignoring the sign? I understand you could be trespassed if you don't leave when told to.

    Love this:
Spurrier has a young son. The two stopped by the Centre at Salisbury today to purchase video games. Spurrier said the signs make her feel safer.

So I'm a thug about to bring a firearm into the mall to rob a store and see this sign. Oh CRAP! I cannot rob the store at gun point now!

I don't have a MD CCW and haven't taken the course, but is there a prescribed sign businesses must use for a no gun sign to be valid? In Texas, they must post a 30.06 statement of a specific size and manner. What does MD require?

Truly I don't know. I talked to my department legal council about it and I understand my responsibilities, but I'm unsure when it's a privately held CCW.

I assume it doesn't apply to LE.

Without boring everyone with a lot of departmentally specific details, I'll say that sometimes it does apply and sometimes it doesn't. The biggest answer seems to be that if someone lawfully in charge of private property tells you to leave, you pretty much have to leave unless you're there in an official capacity with the proper paperwork.

anyone see the irony if LE shows up to enforce a trespass, but mall security says "you can't come in here with a gun."
