I was doing a google search for C&R related research and this forum came up. I checked it out and it looks like a great forum. When it comes to C&R stuff I like to have as many options as possible in case I have a question.

When I was there last (during the early phases of the current 22lr shortage), went to the Gander Mtn in Rockford and found plenty of CCI 22LR in stock. Was very frustrated that they wouldn't allow me to buy given my MD license - for which the workaround would have been a carry permit valid in Illinois or an Illinois hunting permit (wasn't prepared with either). Will look into getting an IL non-resident carry permit this year given their change in law (and not just to buy ammo).

I'm under the impression that Illinois only issues to non residents of a select few states. I think I saw that they sent surveys to other states regarding carry laws and to determine if their carry laws are similar to Illinois. I think only a few states qualify for Illinois non resident CCW Hawaii,New Mexico and Virginia. Maybe some have been added since I last checked. But if it's true and they sent surveys to other states fat chance Maryland will respond to that. Edit: I just checked no response from Maryland lol

If there isn't a non-resident path for an MD resident (with no MD carry permit) to the get an Illinois carry permit, I was contemplating a Wisconsin permit (and taking a Wisconsin class when back in the Midwest). Wisconsin recently announced that they would recognize Illinois permits, and given the generally genial relationship between the two states (despite the governors being in different political parties), I would think that Illinois hasn't crossed Wisconsin off the list as yet either (as they have with Utah - if I understand correctly - need to get updated at illinoiscarry.com).

Edit: checked handgunlaw.us - seems to be no current path as you indicate as they want you to hold a permit from your state of residence, and only recognize 4 states thus far. News reports last month suggested that they were considering a reciprocity agreement with Wisconsin (and Wisconsin moved to recognize Illinois permits), but Illinois will likely limit any recognition to Wisconsin state residents with Wisconsin permits.
