I can see the coming doom already. It is going to be impossible to get a firearm in MD after October. Fingerprinting, training, licensing, and all in a system that isn’t even designed yet. I could easily see this costing over $300 just to go through everything you need to get a firearm. No way will this process be declared legal by non MOM controlled courts. It’s a gun poll tax, plain and simple.

I think we should all form a Firearms Dependency (ADDICTION) Group. We are VICTIMS!

This would allow the STATE to release more money to the MSP.

This would allow the MSP to hire a lot more people to process ADDICTION applications.

This would allow us to buy more GUNS and further our ADDICTION really FAST.

This would allow the STATE to tax us more so the STATE can hire FIREARM ADDICTION SPECIALIST TECHNICIANS and set-up the Department of F.A.S.T.

Once we become VICTIMS, we will have no more worries because the STATE will provide for us.

In this Circle of Life we would always need the STATE and the STATE would always need us. The STATE will begin to embrace GUN OWNERS. The STATE will produce more GUNS so we will buy more GUNS so the STATE can help us with our GUN ADDICTION.

It's a Win-Win. We win and the Village wins.

I don't know but I thought I'd ask. I we the only state with this problem? I mean the amount of applications for regulated firearms.

The logistics are simply not there.

And the logistics will not be there.

And the STATE does not care if the logistics are not there.

Nothing in THE BILL says the STATE has to do ANYTHING in the way of logistics.

The entire SB281 was designed to make it almost impossible to obtain a firearm.

A 6 to 8 month wait is right around the corner. At this point, A LOT of people will simply give up on the idea of firearm ownership.

    Gun ban through attrition.

Why can't it done like in states like VA and so forth, within 10 mins you get the background check? I know it's been said millions of times, but it's just common sense.

You're new so I'll cut you some slack.

This is a logical and logistical free zone.

You get 3 days added to your wait time.

    Don't let it happen again.

Do all applications go through secondary review?

No, only applications that have something come up on them go through a secondary review. In essence, the secondary review is used when there is a problem with the application. If the application flows through the first review without any flags/hiccups, then there is no secondary review and it gets "Not Disapproved". At least that is my understanding of the process.

and keep hammering until they get it done within the mandated 7 days

You do realize that continuing to hammer them means they have less people to work on applications because those people have to answer the phones and respond to e-mails.

I feel somewhat sorry for the peons in the process, not so much for the top brass. Hard to believe that they cannot fire some temps or something to do database checks. Pretty sure they could even hire some temp attorney from a staffing agency, get them up to speed quick on the 17 databases, keep them on staff for several months until this entire mess has been worked through, and then cut them loose.

If they wanted to, I think they could figure out a way to speed things up and still remain true to public safety.

they should spend the money the fed gives them for nics on what it is meant for
the appropriation commitee is already looking into what they actually use it for and why they are not in compliance.
if they submitted the required data there would not be 17 databases, just 1

I know Connecticut had a run on guns too. New York didn't because they were banned overnight, so people did not have a chance to even go out and buy any.

Read this article from May 22, 2013 regarding the Connecticut issue.

Meanwhile, Colorado is going through a recall vote and it looks like the Speaker of the House might lose his seat out there.

You are preaching to the choir here. I find it PATHETIC that Maryland does not submit the data to NICS. That allows somebody to do something here, move to another state, and then legally purchase a firearm in another state even though they were mentally unstable in Maryland and/or disqualified for other reasons.

Yep, I think the political corruption and stupidity is moving into Maryland from DC. I have a 90 year old client living in DC that could not stand to vote in this past election. She said to me "I did not know which one to vote for because both of them were crooks."

It just blows my mind that the Feds do NOT force the states to report the information to NICS.

I read on another thread that if your app comes up and one of the 17 or so data bases are down, then the app goes to review.
I don't know how true this is, or how often a data base is down, but given the number of apps going to review with apparently no good reason, this seems likely. hints from other posts may indicate that the data bases are not that reliable (ie- down a lot) or the antiquated MSP IT system can't access then a lot.
