Mossberg 500 question

Greeting from harford county everyone! Longtime lurker, first time poster. After countless hours reading through various threads here I've picked up a ton of great info from many of you. So I'm hoping one of you guys may have a little insight into my issue. About a month ago I picked up a used 500 from a local guy and I just the other day finally got the time to take it out and spend a little time checking it out. It's the one with the shorter tube on it (not the full length of the barrel) and I thought that the shorter tube had a capacity of 4+1 or 5+1. Well anyway when I go to put shells in it, I can only load 2+1. I can't believe the capacity would be that low?? Everything else about the shotgun looks and functions properly. Any guidance as to what my issue might be would be greatly appreciated.

There should be a plug in the tube. Take it out and it will hold two more rounds.

Mine has a wooden dowel in it. It comes right out when you're not hunting.

unscrew the cap, remove the barrel, and shake the gun so that the wooden dowel inside the mag tube falls out of the hole in the end of it. it's plugged to keep it legal for hunting, but very easy to remove. enjoy your increased capacity!

Unscrew barrel.
Rack action halfway.
Take off barrel
Point reciever towards ground
Shake reciever (a wooden dowel should fall out)
Reassemble

Thanks guys. Took all of about 15 seconds to take the rod out and reassemble. Amazing how easy something can be once you know how to do it!
