I agree. Buying a different gun that’s already what you need for not that much over machining the existing rifle seems like a win. But if OP absolutely wants to put a can on his Henry that’s his prerogative. Ether way he’s going to have a great little varmint slayer.I would buy one of these(I actually already have one)...

S&S recommended a Quick Disconnect device made for suppressors by the suppressor manufacturers. There is a significant difference in design and quality from the threaded barrel attachments that are floating around.I’m assuming that you are getting your barrel cut and threaded, by a competent gunsmith. So yes, after pinning and welding this in place, you will then have your barrel length back, with threads and no need for a tax stamp. But, I also said I agreed with rseymorejr. Buying a new or used rifle, that already has threads, may be a more viable alternative. Funny that you worry about baffle strikes and call my idea crazy () but when S&S recommends it, it’s just because you think it’ll be ugly.
Hey John,Thanks for thinking about the problem but that would make it a little too ugly. While putting some cold blue over a weld job I could live with, having a big blob out in front just wouldn't do.
I am still looking into the possibility of having the dovetail welded up.
Yes it is octagon. I just spoke to a member of my club who owns a welding company. He says he can TIG weld the dovetail. Now as to grinding the weld, how much does he have to grind seeing as you are going to turn it down.Hey John,
Is it an octagon barrel model? I could get real fancy and make an octagon barrel extension. It would be pricy but probably come out pretty cool!
Probably easier for me to turn down whatever he has than for him to grind it down to match, as I'm sure there wont be a crazy excess. A few passes and I'll be ready to go.Yes it is octagon. I guess I'm asking if you need anything specific to facilitate your part of the job.
Regards,
John
I like that rifle and the price is right.I would buy one of these(I actually already have one)...

For the price, they are nice little rifles with decent accuracy.I like that rifle and the price is right.
I got this Mk II for $339. It’s an awesome little rifleI like that rifle and the price is right.

Awesome John! Glad we were able to find a solution for you! Look forward to meeting you!Well, this was all about my Henry, that I already own. I did not want to buy another rifle.
As it turns out, the dovetail will get welded up and S&S will thread it and I will be a happy camper.
I'm going to stop by and say hello at the Howard County show.Awesome John! Glad we were able to find a solution for you! Look forward to meeting you!
John,Ok, Trevor from S&S says he will turn and thread if I can find someone to weld it. He also reminded me that heat can warp the barrel so it may not be as accurate as it is right now.
I am going to start another thread dedicated to filling in the dove tail and see what our welding experts say.
Thanks for thinking about this.John,
Skinner sells front solid brass sights with a brass 3/8 dove tail for henrys. They fit really tight and snug you have to tap them in with a punch. You can install a brass front site cut it down to your needs no welding involved.

So John, are you able to avoid the stamp? Thanks for thinking about this.
The sight is being filled in because I am having it threaded so I can use my suppressors on it. It is a 16.1 inch barrel so cutting wasn't an option unless I got it stamped. As for the sights, I have a 2.5 scope installed as I haven't used the sights in a few years.
Yes. A friend from AAF&G owns a welding shop and is going to do the welding and then I am taking it to S&S for threading. So John, are you able to avoid the stamp?
Sweet! It would suck to have to go through all that just for a 1/2" or so.Yes. A friend from AAF&G owns a welding shop and is going to do the welding and then I am taking it to S&S for threading.
