    If it's serial number is in fact 238868, it's a G1896/11 wearing a G1911 stock. Still a great looking rifle. That will affect value but not your enjoyment of it.

    G1911s started at 355001. Anything before that is a G1896/11 that was converted and, if wearing it's original wood, will have a pistol grip grafted onto the original straight wristed stock.

    Yes, the stock and hand guard are numbered to match. Pull it out to see what they say.

    Well I took it out the stock and cleaned it up. Here is what i came up with.

    also bought the Brick .22 federal there(25.00) and got the Box of 7.5 with the rifle

    I don't know what to make of this one. Definitely a G1896/11 serial number and definitely not a G1896/11 stock but that stock is definitely numbered to that gun. Any evidence of sanding and restamp in the barrel channels of the wood? And just to confirm I'm not making things up, the pistol grip on that stock is part of the stock and not grafted on, right?

    Correct, it doesnt look added at all. And there is no signs of any old numbers in the stock. It is the only number in the stock. :shrug:

    From the photos, it looks like that line is consistent with the grain of the wood further back in the stock.
