Imagine an HOA so pathetic, the members want to violate rights inside private homes (no guns)

In a neighborhood adjacent to where I used to live thirty years ago someone’s kid left his bicycle in the driveway. That prompted an official letter from the HOA…someone couldn’t simply move the bike, knock on the door or leave a note…they had to go straight to the official letter.

you don't own anything in an HOA, a kid I use to hang out with after school lived in an HOA and they couldn't do XYZ after 8pm, no noise above X db it sounds like small-time communism if you ask me 15 or so years later.

I agree with that. Of course the government is worse should you not pay a property tax. No one will ever own their home. I won't live with an HOA. If someone wants to tell me I must replace that dead tree with this tree or what color I must paint my front door, that clown had better be paying my mortgage.

Y'all's HOAs are small-time stuff.

Here in lovely Takoma Park, we have no HOA. What we have is our own little legislature, who take it on themselves to write the rules we all must live by. Grass too high? Ivy growing bushy on your pillars? Don't want that tree in your yard?

We have a squad of investigators who go around checking on us, to make sure we are in good with the rules they come up with. We have our own Arborist, who will tell you if you're allowed to ut thet tree, or even remove too many branches. We provide them with cars to drive around looking for infractions.

We also have a MoCo Historical Dsitrict, which is deeplu converned about fence heights, facades, period-proper paint colors, peeling paint, and anything else they feel they should concern themselves about, regarding the property you thought was yours.

All this was legislated into place and paid for with my tax dollars, long after I bought what was to have been "my" house. (Oh yeah, they started the "Rain Tax" concept as well).

The Approved People's Republic, in word and in deed. Coming to a Socially Thoughtful Commune near you. Sooner than you think.

HOAs are the work of the devil. Literally. The legal profession and the joke of a Justice system has built and fostered further the gift that keeps on giving… to them.

My HOA isn't horrible. I served on the board for a while, we/they try to do the minimum.

And of course (just like we're so familiar with in Maryland, where it's our tax dollars used against us) the HOA would fight back using money taken from the residents as HOA fees to bring lawyers to court.

Mine won't even go after morons who improperly park where they block others out of fear of a legal fight.

We have an HOA. The neighbor next door is about 70 and she had an operation on one of her legs and was hobbling around
going back and forth to PT for a while. Her husband built a temporary, unapproved, ramp with a handrail out front to help her navigate the steps our front. It wasn't long before those pricks from the HOA sent them a nasty letter threatening to take them to court if they didn't take it down.
