it should be called "Americanized" I like some of the ideas like the grip

I modernize my AK's.

I can hit targets quicker...
I can put rounds on target faster...
I can install/remove optics without tools, such as swapping a Red Dot for a 6x Scope...
I can operate the safety without changining my grip...
I have a smoother Action for cleaner and easier Operation...
I have a reliable, light and smooth 2 Stage Trigger for PREDICTABLE Shot Break...
I can mount a Silencer (Sound Suppressor)...
I can use a MS3 MAgpul Sling in Single and 2 Point Configurations...
I have a longer and more precise Iron Sight radius...


All of my mods are purpose driven and are "AK Durable". None are added to look "cool", but strangely every time Im at the range people want to shoot my AK's and ask about the unique changes I made.

Guess I'm just odd, but I never felt the need to 'modernize' or 'americanize' my ak when I had one, I felt that for it's purpose, it was pretty solid the way it was.

Maybe when I buy another one the bug will hit, we'll see.

Not a fan of the midwest rail with a red dot, its up way too far, I shit canned mine. Maybe they forgot they have the proper side rail on that sgl

I "modernized" My SGL-21. but all my other AKs are pretty much stock.

AK is new enough, or functional enough, to have all the core features necessary for a quality modern carbine.

It is old enough, or Soviet enough, to lack a lot of minor features that can really make a difference.

I get people who want to keep their stuff "classic", but there is a huge aftermarket dedicated to modernizing the AK, and they are really getting quite clever about it.

Personally I've got:

Magpul stock w/Veltor adaptor, cheek riser
Magpul MS3 sling
Bulgarian bird cage flash hider
TWS dog leg 2, rail cover, which mounts an Aimpoint PRO
TWS Peep (this gives me a very long sight radius btw)
Krebs safety

All of these changes were extraordinarily easy to do (i.e. I could do it).

So far the rifle has only become easier for me to manipulate, and other than optic is also isn't heavier.

Now if you wanted a Vietnam era gun, with all wood furniture, crappy slant break, and all that, then knock yourself out. But even the Russians don't make them that way anymore, and haven't for decades.
