Hi to everyone on the forum.

I 've recently moved to SoMD from the UK and decided to get back to shooting. Some of you may know how difficult gun ownership is abroad, and the UK was no exception. It's probably 25 years since I shot anything other than service weapons (FN SLR and SA-80) so I'm starting slow.

Spent a few weeks working on the 'non-citizen, non-immigrant' status issues that seemed to prevent me achieving anything. Despite being a tax-paying, MD resident it was all looking like a lot of hard work.

With a little help and guidance I found that if I competed the DNR Hunters Ed, got a hunting license and completed the ATF 4473 process, then Walmart were happy to sell me a shotgun. So I have now picked up my first gun. Only a Mossberg 12ga pump, but it feels like success!

I'm seeing lots of good words about Bobs Sunoco, so hope to be heading here next week to discuss Glocks . . .

Looking forward to meeting some of you out and about.

    Cheers!

See you at the SMIBtogethers. I love entertaining people from across the pond. Beltfeds off the back deck and thousands of rounds are always fun. Well settle in with some sweet lemonade(official beverage)and enjoy the show.

Welcome! note my moniker - I have lived in AA county for 40 years and, despite the Marxist socialist politics in this state, cannot imagine living anywhere else. From whence do you hail?

    Welcome from Westminster!

Edinburgh, eh? So, doesn't that make you a Scotsman? Not nit-picking, just curious...

Anyway, I'd like to have a pint with you, sound like an interesting bloke.

Absolutely! I may have a British passport, but my 'country of birth' is always Scotland. Now, having travelled for 30-some years, I'm trying to figure out how to stay here in US permanently.

The US might not be perfect, but it's better than most! Despite some of the 'issues' I hear people complaining about (some of them here on MDS) there's more personal freedom to live your chosen lifestyle in the US than most other places I've been.

Thats something worth hanging on to.

    Mopar92,

That's this weeks 'job'! I went the the show at Chantilly last week to 'hold' as many handguns as I could, and liked the feel of G17 - so I figure that's a good one to start with.

I'm finding that paperwork and process (for anything here) takes weeks and weeks - but does seem to work out in the end.

    Always the optimist!

Don't forget to take the MD handgun safety course at mdgunsafety.com
It's required unless youre LEO, or MIL. Not sure if foreign mil service counts though.

Come up to AGC and just "talk". Everyone will instantly be your friend. My son gets such a kick out of listening to the vocal inflection of his UK Elite Soccer coaches.
