1. Correct re that it is Maryland law that allows transport within the state to and from shooting contests, hunting, repair, and range.
2. It is not necessary to do step #5 re the handgun license if you simply wish to own and keep in your home. You do need step 1. While step 5 is a hassle, I recommend doing this, in part because it may eventually assist you in a legal case (the Maryland 2A decision last year basically took away the ability of the defendant to make a constitutional argument because he had not applied).
Now, let me say I am not trying to be antagonistic toward the OP. However, most of this stuff has been covered ad nauseum on this very site for years. As an introductory post, it seems, to me at least, to be a little over the top.
Some clarification added to orignal post. You can go to/from shop, range, or hunting location/sporting that itself is lawful; and you can have on your property under Maryland law. Federal law allows you to take your weapon across statelines to a lawful location in the other state. Generally, in the trunk and in a lock box.
I agree with Joe, the OP needs to do a little more research in order to provide a more accurate original post and subsequently not have to correct the original. Sorry, that's my .02 on this. Bad info is worse than none IMO.Notwithstanding any other provision of any law or any rule or regulation of a State or any political subdivision thereof, any person who is not otherwise prohibited by this chapter from transporting, shipping, or receiving a firearm shall be entitled to transport a firearm for any lawful purpose from any place where he may lawfully possess and carry such firearm to any other place where he may lawfully possess and carry such firearm if, during such transportation the firearm is unloaded, and neither the firearm nor any ammunition being transported is readily accessible or is directly accessible from the passenger compartment of such transporting vehicle: Provided, That in the case of a vehicle without a compartment separate from the driver’s compartment the firearm OR ammunition shall be contained in a locked container other than the glove compartment or console.
