So he says he has faith in the same people that allowed crime to get out of hand in the first place?

Any big city has crime - that's because any big city has been ruled by (D) for over 60 years.

He's telling us its the crime without saying its the crime.

    ^ Truth.

Ted has "faith" as far as he has to hold his breath and pretend for the next few years until he's 3.5 miles away in VA to publicly admit that it's actually the crime.

(Washington, DC) – Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser opened the District’s first Safe Commercial Corridor Hub in the Chinatown neighborhood. The Safe Commercial Corridor Hubs will connect residents to a range of city services in priority areas, with a specific focus on working across government to keep corridors safe and clean. The hubs will be staffed by outreach teams from multiple public safety and human services agencies that will be able to respond in real-time to challenges in the community.

    .............

The District’s first Safe Commercial Corridor Hub in Chinatown is located at 675 H Street NW and will be open for residents to walk-in for services from Monday through Friday, 9 am to 6 pm. The hub will be staffed with representatives from the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), Mayor’s Office of Community Relations and Services (MOCRS), Mayor’s Office of Nightline and Culture (MONC), Mayor’s Office of Asian Pacific Islander Affairs (MOAPIA), the Department of Human Services (DHS), and the Department of Behavioral Health (DBH).

    ..............

Two additional community hubs will be established in the U Street area and in Anacostia, and those hubs are set to open in Spring 2024.

    Thoughts?

Phrased another way , they're admitting that the rest of the city is dirty , dangerous , and lacks basic g'ovt services .

Phrased yet another way, they're committing to try to protect areas that are now generating much less income, due to rampant thuggery.

That is to say, areas that don't already generate tax revenue are sh!t out of luck.

So stand back and watch Mayor's Office staffers save the city! It should be entertaining, anyway.

They're going to need a few more Hubs.

Went through Georgetown last Friday night. Walked down Wisconsin Ave and then along the main strip. The head shops are destroying the place. Glad I was carrying.

Crime in Chinatown has been a focus of arena talks. It’s nearly flat.

She cherry-picked this as much as possible to write this. Flat still sucks and that's before you get to the crimes which have been recorded. You have drug using, drug dealing gang members hanging out at the Metro Exits and making the whole strip generally unpleasant for anyone to want to go to. If people don't feel safe, they won't go.

Total denial. She's getting roasted in the comments.

Going to get a lot worse if the arena vacates to VA.

Who in their right mind would invest in a business in Chinatown now, knowing that the teams could leave for VA?

    Total disaster.
It's already pretty bleak down there. Big retailers closing, fewer restaurants. Like someone else said, these things are cyclical. Buying opportunities incoming for the big players and scrappy little guys.
