There are a sow and two cubs in our neighborhood; neighbor texted us in June to look out our front door as they were meandering across our meadow … they’re still around so I am pretty sure one or more of our neighbors are feeding them (same reason people put salt licks in their yard, they “like to watch the deer”) … there’s a bakery nearby which sell entire racks of expired bread, donuts, jelly rolls, etc for a few bucks (most people use the racks to feed their hogs etc)

The sow crossed the road about 35 yards in front of the wife and our dog about a month ago; I don’t know how exactly poor their eyesight is but, she only paused long enough to glance in my wife’s direction and then continued on her way up into the woods. The dog was looking the other way and never saw her.

    OP, best o’ success!
Maybe your dog knew the bear was there and purposely looked the other way. Plausible deniability, discretion being the better part of valor, and such. Smart dog.

    … Smart dog.

    Too smart. To wit:

First photo is his reaction when I tell him he’s done something bad …

Second photo is what he does after 30 seconds to see if I am still in the room, just standing there … !

My group got on the board with a ~250lb sow on the last evening. I'll tell you, we covered a lot of ground and I have a newfound hatred of mountain laurel thickets. A tough hunt for sure. According to the DNR agent, the season stats were:
    Total killed: 103
    Largest: 643
    Garrett: 78
    Allegheny: 8
    Washington: 12
    Frederick: 5
    Archery Kills: 3

Cool to say that ours was with a bow.

I did not get a bear. Had a great experience, went straight from my hunting trip into a 2 week work trip out of state. Will write more when time permits.
