Anyone have a breakdown of MD Carry permit numbers by county/city?

It'd be of interest to look at changes in violent crimes over time, to see of there's any correlation. I don't know how to get MSP to release the info.

Beyond that, figures regarding number of permit holders charged with crimes would also be interesting.

Do a freedom of information request. Since the data is in the computer, they should be able to spit out a report. You will have to spring for the cost of getting the report though.

I have done a number of these when I was in the Fed. When the request was received, it was sent out through out the agency. If you had stuff they wanted, you made copies, annotated how much time and at what grade was used, and forwarded it back out the chain. We never held them up and we took the matter seriously and did not hide relevant material as it had criminal penalties attached.

Of course the Govmint is different today and the State Police has never been forthcoming with stuff that would help us.

I could’ve sworn that MDSP released a report last year at some point that had exactly those numbers. Carroll was in the lead if I recall.

Don't think you'll see any correlation between the number of permits and violent crime, at least not in MD

It's worth noting that Baltimore's homicide rate dropped by 20% since Bruen. I can't think of anything the MD GA did that would account for this. I'm curious to see whether violent crime decreased in the more urban areas post-Bruen.

I believe Baltimore has far more CCW holders now than formerly; in places like MoCo, where violent crime has continued apace, there's been only a very few increased permits relative to population size.

All subject to the usual fallacies, of course. But there seems to be few other factors that would be part of a decrease. It's merely my idle curiosity that piqued my interest.

I don’t recall the exact numbers, but I thought that Baltimore county was leading. Please correct me if you have the report.

Continental Arms is packed with new shooters. Many taking a CCW class. I assume most are from the local county.

And the number of permits has likely doubled in the year since. Would love to know how the relative county numbers have changed in that time.

MoCo County Code FROZE out a million residents who would not APPLY because of the thousands of 100 yard GUN FREE ZONES that were only recently ruled unconstitutional.

No, the number of people taking W&C class fell like a rock in the past year. Attendees for my classes was less than 20% of the previous year. Other instructors are reporting the same thing.

In '22 I gave classes to about 40 people per month. In '23 it fell to about 8.

I never said that the rate of people seeking permits doubled (or even that it remained constant), only that the number of permits likely has since January of '23. The "surge" was still going on early last year and 2023 was the first full year post-Bruen.
