I was driving REAL back roads going from Harford County to Lancaster yesterday. When along the side of the road, I see what looks to be a full sized cannon but it's painted blue. I mean everything is blue. Well anyway, I get out and look at it from the road (afraid to walk onto their property) and it looks real. I didn't get any pictures, but I'd bet $100 that it was real.

I wonder why anyone (even the folks that live on dirt, back roads in PA) would paint a real cannon and then leave it outside as a front yard decoration?

    Oh well.

I liked Naptown34's little mortar so much I had to get one for myself. Haven't had a chance to take it to the farm to fire golf balls, so in the meantime it's just black powder & newspaper wadding.

    I've got a Traditions 50-cal 9" naval-style cannon.

I've only shot tin-foil balls out of it, used to knock down stacked beer cans.

Been shooting it at crab pot buoys off a buddy's pier in South AA County. .610" balls, 30 gr. FFg. What a hoot! Sometimes we actually hit one. Cool too to see some of the balls skip across the water. (Note: landfall 6 miles away, and no boats in sight only.)

My NSSA team member bought a cannon last week and we got to shoot it for the first time. We are going to shoot in the cannon competition at the NSSA. Here are some pictures of the cannon and the target. We still need some practice with it as we only shot 12 rounds. We got two in the bulls eye which is a good start! The cannon is a full size Mountain rifle reproduction with a 2.25" bore, which is the original bore size. This is going to be a BLAST being on the Cannon team! Were shooting at 200 yrd's.
