    I got that beat!

Y'all should have known better than to buy from "Eldest Son Surplus!"

In all seriousness, glad both of you are ok and can share your tales as a sobering yet not tragic reminder to be safe.

This AM shooting my WIN brass reloads; 5.5 Grs of WSF, COL 1.169, CCI #500, had an explosion. Note attached pictures. Of course it resulted in a few minor burns to both hands. I don’t keep count of the # of times the brass was reloaded. During reloading, every so many rounds I will check a few with a Wilson Pistol Gage.

Any idea on what might have caused the issue..
I was thinking of visiting you guys this morning. Always a day late and a dollar short. Glad you're OK old man.

I've had something similar happen to me in the past and in my instance, I believe the slide was not all the way forward (or in battery). I suspect it was caused by me not properly resizing a brass cartridge on the Dillon (short stroke) and the slide of the pistol not fully closing when it went bang. Most of the brass I reload is range pickups (aka junk).

I check every round I fire in an ammo checker block and probably 11-12K rounds later, I've not had a problem (but I discard/disassemble my reload rejects - still have those from time to time).

Differences in case webs can be a concern too, in this case.

    (no pun intended)

If it were firing out of battery, the primer strike would be off center. That looks typically centered. Not out of battery.

Honestly, it looks like a bad piece of brass.

What makes you say that? If the chamber is in spec, and the majority of the case is in the chamber, the firing pin is going to strike the center of the primer.
