So far I am loving it. Carried it tonight when we went out and, though heavier than the Glock, it feels less bulky than the S&W did.

Can't wait to swap out the grips, though....these Ahrend Slim Grips are doing nothing for me...just want plain old wood.

Oh no... another carry condition question.

Condition 1. The way it was designed.
But I second the good holster with good retention.
    Congrats on the 1911.
    The 1911 and the glock.....

WHAT ARE YOU DONE WITH THE WHEELGUNS???...lol

Not entirely....just got bored. The 1911 was supposed to be a Model 29 .44 Magnum.

Congrats on the 1911. You are on the true path grasshopper.

Reloading 45 is easy peasy and a ton of fun. Just be careful with the range brass (the whole different sizes of primers thing).

    So......where are the pictures?

    Ummmmm.....
How did you possibly mistake it for a model 29?
Nah I get what your sayin. My RIA was suppost to be a 380 for the wife.
Opps. She had to do her own paperwork.

I think it's explained in the other thread, but here's the short version.

It was supposed to be a straight swap- Model 27 for Model 29.

We arranged a meet and all that.

Ed looks in his S&W safe (yeah, really) and checks his records....he had already traded the 29. He attributed it to being an old guy :D

I tell him thanks anyway. I'm disappointed, but something will come my way.

30 minutes later he e-mails and offers the Colt "if I'd be interested"....

A Colt 1911? Didn't have to ask me twice.

Been practicing tonight with an empty mag in the gun.

The cocked and locked concept now is less "frightening". I have done everything I can possible do to drop the hammer when the safeties are engaged....no go. Just like they are supposed to work.

    Thanks for the advice everyone.

You do need to practice releasing (and reapplying!) the safety, until you develop muscle memory. And be careful switching back-and-forth between the 1911 and the Glock. If you are going to switch back and forth, better to train to release (and reapply!) an imaginary safety on the Glock.

Otherwise, the proper way to carry is with the pistol disassembled and the slide duct-taped to your chest.

Thanks for the (lopsided) input. :lol2:

I have it in a generic holster right now with questionable retention. Going into town in a few minutes and getting another holster.

When I have the proper holster, I believe it will be cocked and locked as suggested.

I didn't read all the posts, I stopped right here to give you a quick opinion. Be Very Very Careful with some holsters like the "auto lock" types. 5.11 and Serpa. Especially the ones with the front locks release. There is a video floating around here some where. A guy was trying to practice with his new holster. He went to release the lock, when he did he also released his safety on his 1911. The guy shot himself in the knee. So, just be careful, when you are choosing a holster with the intention of carrying a 1911 "Cocked and Locked".
