The SKS is a good rifle but not as good as the vz. I have both; I've put thousands of rounds through each. I consider them equally reliable, but the vz is lighter, shorter, more accurate, for me has better ergonomics, and with a good muzzle brake is pleasant to shoot. Plus the 30 round mags... -

I had the same malfunction with my vz2008 with the first shot from a full mag. The rifle had had a few thousand rounds through it at that time, and another couple thousand since. It's the only failure I've ever had with it. I don't recall the brand of ammo, but do remember that I had topped... -

Short/reduced capacity magazines for vz58/vz2008
5 round mags available again from this vendor, $22 + $6.50 shipping. I bought one when they had them in stock a year or 2 ago. It's well made, looks good, and has not given me any trouble. As I recall the shipping time was reasonable considering they ship from the Czech Republic... -

I know the mag spring issue is getting off topic, but consider that the springs have a fair degree of compression even in an unloaded magazine. So should we disassemble magazines before storing? :sarcasm:
