I was -2.75 in my left and -3.50 in my right, pure astigmatism, no sphere. Got lasik and now 20/15 in both eyes. It's the best thing I've ever done for myself, ever(aside from marrying the wife and having kids). The first time i saw a night sky after the surgery was literally breathtaking.
Very interesting! Where did you go? I’ve been contemplating doing it, as well. My main vision problems have been seeing anything up close. But recently, my vision for distance has been getting bad. Fingers crossed, that you live in or near Southern MD.

I was talking about this the other day. Why don't people get cataract lens replacement purely for vision correction even without having cataracts? Everyone I know that has had the cataract surgery can see almost perfectly. My mom being the most recent who barely needs glasses anymore for reading. Best thing she ever did she told me. My vision I think (I hope) has finally stopped getting worse, but my closeup is total shit and my long-range is mostly shit. It sure would be nice to be able to see clearly again.

    Good question.

I suspect the answer lies in medical ethics; there's always a risk involved in surgical procedure, and to expose a patient to this risk in the absence of a medical necessity leaves the physician vulnerable, and the patient possibly harmed.

Beyond that, there's still the focusing issue. When I had my cataracts done, the solid fixed-focus lens was the gold standard, and variable-focus lenses were far from perfect. I don't know if that's still the case. Other issues may also apply. I'm not in favor generally for medical intervention in the absence of disease; plastic surgery patients who are interested in enhancement obviously would disagree.

Plenty of room for differing opinions on the subject. Someone who acually knows something is welcome to chime in; meanwhile, I'll do me.
