As of July 14, 2016, there have been 2,033 new handgun permit applications, averaging 73 /week, which is a 38% increase from 2015.
As of July 14, 2016, there have been 2,250 handgun permit renewal apps, averaging 80/week, which is the same compared to 2015.
As of July 14, 2016, there have been 96 handgun permit denials (includes new/renewal), averaging 3/week, which is -25% compared to 2015.
The above numbers come directly from Captain Stachurski at LD.
In this state- any movement in the right direction is a cause for celebration.
That said- this puts the approval rating for applications at 97.75%, beyond corroborating what Gov. Hogan said.
Which means, the only way to FIX the problem for the average citizen, is for MORE PEOPLE TO APPLY. Nobody will believe that anything needs to be changed if there is a 98% approval rate.

I think the deceptive part of this is that of the 2,250 applications, how many are from average citizens who would like to carry a weapon for protection. Listening to some of the recordings from the HPRB, I would not bother trying to get a wear/carry permit.
This absolutely the message we need to be putting out there.
From me and repeated by Captain Stachurski of LD - People need to apply and if denied appeal to the HPRB before they can comment and complain about the wear and carry permit system in Maryland.
And if you applied a couple of years ago and got denied, apply again today and see what happens.

The missing number in the above is just how many of the 4,283 new and renewal applications have completed the approval process? Is that 96 denials and 4,197 approvals or is it 96 denials 100 approved and 4,097 applications pending? Certainly some of the 2,033 new applications this year have yet to be either approved or denied based on what members report on how long the process takes. Also some people have reported applications being returned with no action taken.
Living on a fixed income I can not afford to risk the funds unless there is a high likelihood of an approval.

so now unless we throw away our time for the class, the money for the class and the money for the application and the who knows how long time waiting to be denied and then waiting who knows how long to go to the hprb to turn us down we aren't allowed to complain about one of the most onerous ccw process in the country?
well shit, since the msp have spoken I will quit writing letters and emails to my reps and the governor, or maybe not.
edit: so the cost of being allowed to complain is what ? $400 for the class, $75 for the app and $50ish for the fingerprints? so $550 is the cost of being allowed to complain?
shyte, I have a couple of non resident ccw permits and I didn't spend but about a third of that. how is that right? woops, I forgot I am not allowed to complain.......
Sounds like discrimination to me and grounds for a law suit
