A beautiful afternoon moving and shooting at the Blaster compound ...

He of course shot all my guns better than I. Will post examples later.

Whoops, just realized this is in the C&R subforum, lol. Apologies. Thanks to Blaster for his hospitality and multitude of shooting tips. Notable that you and Peter Ott both zeroed in on some common items despite different training backgrounds. Appreciated all the practical knowledge as well. Continuing on Dreadpirate's riff, we really could have shot a Hickok45 video based on all the firearms testing that you willing did, especially the 9mm comparison with the VP9, Walther PPQ, P99 AS, P99 C AS, and Vickers Glock 19. Will find an appropriate thread/subforum to post some of these results.

That's okay. I was looking forward to seeing more of Blaster's Undisclosed Location and whatever private range he has. I hope you will post more, here or somewhere else. Sounds Threadworthy.

I will tomorrow, my friend. Tired and need to look at some of the pics. It's a place Blaster and his wife share with family, including his brother-in-law, Heatseeker. It sits on 12 acres in Western Maryland and includes a large and beautifully constructed cabin that Blaster's father-in-law and sons (Heatseeker being one) built. (And I checked whether this info was ok to share)

Here's a couple of shots of the interior. On the wall is a Thompson muzzle loader Blaster's dad put together that's resting on the hoofs of Blaster's first deer that he shot in his youth.

As per Blaster's shooting, I put him through the ringer. He shot at least 10 guns today, most that he picked up for the first time and many he liked. He shoots exceedingly well. From 10-15 yards out, his 10 shot groups are 2-3 inches at worst, even with a handgun he's never shot before. The groups shot during rapid fire were indistinguishable from slow fire. Two revelations for him today were how much he enjoyed shooting a Bulgarian Makarov as well as a Walther P99 AS Compact (in fact he asked if the small Walther was a fixed barrel, possibly because his group was so tight).

Here are some pics of the targets. All shot from about 10-13 yards as we moved around and it was an informal shoot. I probably stressed him out by telling I was going to post pics, even though he had never shot several of the types of guns in the past (lol, no pressure). He was getting close to have shot 300 rds near the end of this handgun session based on my empty ammo box count. Moreover he needed to get these done to shoot rifles (incl 300 BLK)! Chop chop.

Upper right circle, HK VP9 (ignore the body with bullet holes from moving and shooting drills) ...

    uploadfromtaptalk1459133344377.jpg

Upper right small body profile, Bulgarian Makarov (first mag ever shooting the gun) ...

    uploadfromtaptalk1459133452481.jpg

Walther P99 AS Compact, left with one second per shot, right with faster shots (first two times ever shooting the gun) ...

    uploadfromtaptalk1459133539244.jpg

Walther P99 AS on the left and Walther PPQ on the right (first shots for him out of either gun) ... center mass were about one round per second ... head shots were shot at speeds channeling Jerry Miculek ...

    uploadfromtaptalk1459133627362.jpg

Finished part of a Vickers Glock 19 mag with rapid fire to the head ...

    uploadfromtaptalk1459133786776.jpg

He felt it shot a bit high due to the front sight (which he really liked otherwise, easy to pick up). My experience too, although I need to bring it to 5 yards or less to get groups like him.

Finally, he closed with the HK VP9, which he used in the earlier instructive session for me, and started the target shooting session with. You'll notice the grouping opened up a little bit below relative to the first pic in this post with the VP9. Could be the switching between different platforms, or the high round count by this time. Btw, both of the circles in the pic below, he shot with a Glock 32 (13 rds of 357 Sig per mag) ...

We sure did have a good day and to top it off with the road kill cafe.
Glad you learned a lil sumthin. A lot of sampling advanced shooting to the point of overload. I just wanted to cover everything. But due to time, total immersion was the way to go. Maybe we can work on the basics next time. Nah. Not as fun.
I think that last VP9 group was the rhythm drill I tried with my trigger finger all the way in, trying to slap it. It worked pretty well I think. Although, I was beat at that point in the day.
I loved the 99C, the MAK and the 300. I think I could hammer nails with that rifle at distance, with a real table, seating and with or without reading glasses.

Can't wait to do it again!

Did fidelity have to wear the black bag over his head enroute to this undisclosed destination? LMAO

Looks like you guys had a blast, pun intended.

No bag. But he did have to follow me in from the highway. I made him close his eyes. He promised that he did, but I'm not so sure.

Ha, I lost cell and cell GPS capability (this last one confused me) when out there on my Nexus 5X with Google Fi service (hops onto Sprint or T Mobile networks), so I was essentially in the dark so lucky that we had a rendezvous time near the highway turnoff. Definitely not a path I could easily commit to memory on the first time up the mountain after the turnoff.

I got to make some notes. You shared a lot. Some that I started practicing (which doesn't involve shooting). Appreciate the insightful instruction. Very fun day to boot.

Love the Road Kill Cafe's tag line ...

I was thinking you might have gone all Jack Bauer on him. LMAO

The black out of his cell phone coverage probably did make him feel like he was in an episode of 24.

He went all Jack Bauer during the first half of the range day. He definitely has the gun fighter/combat mindset vs defensive pistol shooting gamer approach (there is overlap of course). He is all about efficiency, economy of motion, and expediency in accomplishing one's goal. He discusses mag exchange techniques, the way one scans, the way one moves and shoots, etc that differ from what you would do in a shooting sport vs a situation where you need to kill the bad guy. Point shooting was real big as well as shooting from retention. Even gangster style shooting had its place.

When I was saturated, I suggested we do some traditional target shooting, and he showed me what he could do when he used sights from a stationary position (not his intent, but I figured if I kept feeding him firearms to try, he could have some fun too :D ).

Anyway, I think we need to atone and get this thread back on track with some range day pics using C&R firearms. I have a couple in mind so will be back to update after a range trip.
