    Just sayin'

That article seems to indicate that the DHS screen process is flawed, not he watch list.

Exactly, the headline is a little confusing.

But, if it's flawed enough to miss the bad guys, it's probably equally flawed to put 'us good guys' on it ... and we would NEVER know until we attempted to board an aircraft ... or legally buy a firearm.

    Short and sweet for me....

    "Subject: Terror Watch List
    Dear Delegate,
It's something basically all tyrannical dictatorships and authoritarian governments around the world have in common, to put citizens on secret lists and arbitrarily take away their rights without due process. Shouldn't America be better than this???"

    Like I've said many times...

We have the best internet research team here on MDS.

This might sound familiar: Pick a target, personalize it... then knock it out of the park!

ok, remind me if Brochin is a white hat or black hat in this drama...?

Also, someone remind me of the status of these bills...
They had the judiciary committee hearing in both houses, right?
House of delegates had lots of testimonry, Senate had limited testimony, right?
Now it's on the floor for both houses to pass?

Brochin is sort of a grey or zebra striped hat. Give him a minute or two to figure out what he thinks you want to hear and he'll say it. How he will end up voting is a mystery.
So post the question about due process on his Facebook page or not?

If phrased in a way that expresses your concerns over the bill without calling him a slimy turncoat weasel, I don't see how it can hurt.

As the saying goes ... "Grab 'em by the balls and their hearts and minds will follow."

    McFadden email bounced-please check. thanks

    Updated. Thanks

BTW - It's HB 1000, not SB 1040 (this forum thread), which is being pushed to advance. Both bills are "terrorist watchlist" usage. HB1000 discussion thread http://www.mdshooters.com/showthread.php?t=189301

    So diplomatic!

But then, "diplomacy" is the art of telling someone to go to Hell in a way that lets them look forward to the trip...:innocent0

I've heard it defined as saying, "Nice doggie!" while you reach for a rock.

Let's just say Jim and I have a bit of history between us. Despite that, I can still greet him, shake his hand and call him "Senator." If he remembers me as that pleasant person from Sparks rather that as a rude country bumpkin, I may have a better chance of a few of my words sinking through the layer of sludge surrounding his festering brain... but there I go being "diplomatic" again.

    Brochin = Black

Both bills are still in committee and have not come up for committee votes (YET). The Speaker of the House (Busch) is trying to push for a committee vote to move the bill.

Other than a handful of string-pulling, manipulative anti politicians and their sycophant anti groups acting on general anti principles, who actually supports this bill, and why? I suspect it's nobody. It serves no beneficial purpose.

It would set a terrible precedent: Deprive people of Constitutional Rights without Due Process. Maybe that's their precedent-setting purpose.

Well, I couldn't post directly to his FB page, so I sent him a private message.

    Senator,
I urge you to oppose SB1040.
While the intent behind the bill (namely keeping guns out of terrorist's hands) is commendable, this bill unacceptably tramples the rights of due process.
There is no recourse if a person is put on the Terrorist Watchlist. No manner of redress is available. To that end, people on the Terror watchlist are not even supposed to know they are listed there, so of course this is no method to petition for remedy if one finds out they are on the list.
Not only, that, but the abridgement of constitution rights of due process is so terrible, that even the ACLU is against this bill, and has provided testimony to that effect opposing this bill.
The risk of abuse is very high, as demonstrated recently, when every single member of all of the UK's rifle clubs were entered onto the UK-version of this list.
Given the inability for citizens to correct errors on the Terror Watchlist, and the impossibility that the Maryland legislature can develop such a process for a Federally controlled list, I cannot see how this bill can proceed at all.
Please oppose this bill and it's unconstitutional abridgement of the rights of the citizens of Maryland to due process.
    signed...-M

And for those who are interested in the facts behind the UK bit....
feast your eyes on this buncha-bull-chit.
