They should have went to a frame mounted safety/decocker. I hate the slide controls as they activate when slingshotting the slide.

Looks like they combined a Vertec with a "Ninety-Two".... and let me guess, the bazillion 92 magazines out there won't fit the new one... I learned how to shoot on a 92FS, and the Berettas are second nature so I'd give it a shot I guess...

A couple years ago I would have said that's just lipstick on a pig, but I have grown to like my M9.

Though I still believe they look much better without a rail.

I wonder why they still stick with the open slide design. Seems one of the biggest complaints about the M9 is sand and dirt getting packed in it.

That slide mounted safety is pure idiocy. That should have been eliminated 80 years ago by Walther, before the P38. There is no excuse for such bad engineering.

That right there is a sufficient explanation for why the damn Nazis lost the war.

I'm surprised the engineer wasn't convicted and hanged at Nuremberg.

I think this is too little too late. The MHS competition will reveal a firearm capable of firing multiple calibers(ie M&P 9,40,45) on the same platform, a design able to accommodate multiple sized shooters and a firearm with much better reliability and striker fired.

I don't see Glock making major changes to their design in order to win the US contract. Smith could possibly come out with an alternate M&P design or a completely different pistol. Those two companies are the front runners. If Glock were going to win the contract, I would think they would have the last go round. One of the few things I would like to see from S&W would be a take down design similar to Glock and the Beretta Storm pistols. I may be wrong, but if thinks are on the up and up, I don't see Beretta holding onto the contract anymore.

Why do grunts need removable sights and threaded barrels? In my experience, stuff like that will likely just cause more work for the armorers. An accessory rail? That juts means a lot of holsters will need to be replaced. A thinner grip will help people with smaller hands. A better magazine is never a bad idea so long as it's backwards compatible.

Someone really liked the FN FNP Tac and thought they could slip this one under the radar if they dressed it up enough.

Beretta itself states only 100,000. This is in addition to the existing pool of M9 handguns - it's not replacing anything. If anything it'll be more like a special issue item won't it?

Why all the features? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modular_Handgun_System Read what the requirements for the recently announced competition are.

I don't think the threaded barrel is necessarily for everyone, but one pistol that can be used silenced when needed. Removable sights can be replaced when damaged or when the tritium wears out.

Removable sights can also drift, or even worse, fall out at an inopportune time. When I read threaded barrel, I just imagine thread protectors getting lost.
