Just my two cents, but I've never accidentally actuated the safety on my Shield. I'll correct if and when I do. I just love the way it shoots!
My grip with the 8 round mag is what sold me.

But hardly an ultra compact.
And reviews are mixed.

I have both a Nano and a Sig P290, and it's a hard to decide between them. I've been shooting the Nano about a year, with NO issues, and it's proven itself to me. Compared to my other "classic" pistols ,though ( CZ-75, Sig P-6) the trigger has such a long pull that I wonder if it will ever fire. It always does, but having vastly different trigger feel is why I purchased a P290. It's ergonomics are almost as nice as the Nano, and size is slightly smaller. The trigger is a little better in the two range sessions I've had it out. The P290 is also hammer fired with re-strike ability, which I believe is a plus feature, always assuming it works perfectly. If you had the opportunity to handle and shoot both, you'd probably have a hard time deciding between them.
Reviews are probably worse than "mixed". I'd stay away from it for at least a year. The one I held was VERY stiff, and hard to rack the slide. I thought it was broken, it acted so bad. Nice size and weight, but I think there will be a lot of lemons in this first run.

Could not be more pleased with my Sig 329
I have continued to happily carry my Glock 26 ever since starting this thread (occasionally switched out for the G30S or SP101). I finally made it into Constitutional Firearms yesterday to look at the really small 9 mm's. I did not like the Ruger LC9 at all. The Sig P290 was shorter than the G26 but felt almost as chunky. The Shield had by far the best feel in my hand. I must admit I am surprised. I almost ordered the SIG P290 a few weeks ago now I am glad I didn't. While I think I would prefer a Glock single stack 9 mm the Shield appears to be a great option.
I did get to hold the Glock 42 (at a different shop) and I am certain a 9mm could be made in that size so I am weighing my options. Maybe the Shield until Glock has a single stack 9 mm. One can never own too many guns, right?

Love my p938, great little gun. Though I've heard some people having issues such as ftfire I haven't had one hiccup with mine so far!
My p938 is also a sweet shooter. My only wish is that it were a DA/SA action, instead of a mini-1911 . I have large hands at 6" 5" and I'm surprised that I shoot it so well.

I too am thinking about a small DA/SA.
For what it's worth, the CZ 2075 is what is on my mind. I have not had a chance to shoot, or even hold one at this point. But it seems to fit the bill as being the smallest DA/SA 9mm out there.
